【BIKE of the WEEK】BASSI Rachel

I put together every aspect of this bike, from selecting the components to building it, all the while grinning as I imagined, “If I rode a BASSI Rachel, this is how I’d build it!” So, let me tell you about the bike reveal! Let’s get started.

Simple Is Best

The handlebar is the SIMWORKS Little Nick CrMo. It’s a Circles staple, with a simple design that doesn’t try to do too much. There are countless flat bars out there, and I’ve ridden many different ones, but the Little Nick is the most comfortable to hold, in my opinion.

Paired with it is the SIMWORKS Gettin’ Hungry Stem. I love how seamlessly the handlebar and stem clamp come together. It really highlights the slender beauty unique to chromoly.

A Trouble-Free Bike Setup

The standout feature of this bike is its internally geared hub. Its greatest advantage is its low risk of failure. Unlike a conventional derailleur system, nearly all of the shifting components are housed inside the hub, so there’s no need to worry about damaging the mechanism if the bike tips over or takes a hit.

A Touch of White

HYACINTH is a rack maker that hand-builds each rack in Ukraine. I thought BASSI and HYACINTH would make a great match, so I went with the same approach as before. As expected, I installed the HYACINTH Blue Sunday. Matching it with the cable color, the white accents add a fresh touch!

For the Crank, the Face of the Bike

The crank of choice is the SHIMANO Alfine. It also comes with a bash guard, which helps keep your pants from getting caught, and its silver finish blends beautifully with the Rachel.

It also uses a direct-mount crank design, which helps prevent your pedaling force from being lost, making it a great choice for riders who plan to put in plenty of miles. This crank offers the best of both worlds, with nothing sacrificed in looks or practicality!
