Steve Potts grew up at the foot of Mount Tamalpais and has loved cycling since he was a little boy. When he was a child, he used to explore the mountains as if he were watching a western movie for the first time. The sense of freedom that the bicycle gave him would forever shape his future. This passion continued in high school, where he was constantly rebuilding old broken bikes he bought from the local junkyard.
In 1980, he traveled to New Zealand with his friend Joe Breeze and rode both islands, which convinced him that making bicycles would be his vocation. After returning home, he sold everything he had, bought a lathe and mill, and started building bikes from scratch.
In 1982 Steve started WTB/Wildness Trail Bikes with friends CHARLIE CUNNINGHAM and MARK SLATE. Their love of bicycles turned into a business of manufacturing bicycle components with a great friendship.
In 2000 Steve left WTB to live with his two sons. Family has always been the most important thing to Steve, and he's been building custom bikes in his own workshop ever since. Today, Steve's home shop is in the beautiful small town of Etna, California, and his passion for building the best bikes and components has only grown with each passing year.
