ASTRAL CYCLING
At this year's MADE Bike Show, held for the first time, the WHITE INDUSTRIES booth was located in front of the entrance to the venue. ASTRAL CYCLING was present there as a joint booth with ROLF PRIMA and three other brands.
ASTRAL CYCLING is a relatively young brand with a history dating back to 2017, but it was originally derived from ROLF PRIMA, a wheel manufacturer, and is a well-known rim manufacturer that produces excellent rims based on the wealth of wheel-related know-how accumulated by ROLF PRIMA. The reason why these three brands were jointly established is because WHITE INDUSTRIES became the de facto parent company of ROLF PRIMA this year, and they have joined its group.
In fact, WHITE INDUSTRIES has been manufacturing the hubs for ROLF PRIMA wheels for some time. Some of you may know that WHITE INDUSTRIES used to make the original G25A rim, but due to a breakdown in the production machinery, they had to give up manufacturing this rim, and it was regrettably discontinued. However, by teaming up with ASTRAL, we feel that they are eager to promote the proposal of original wheels using WHITE INDUSTRIES hubs.
TECHNOLOGY
ASTRAL Delta Rim Technology
Astral™ road rims utilize Rolf Prima's Delta Rim Technology to optimize rim geometry and improve airflow and stability. Delta Rim Technology takes its cue from the increased rim width and sidewall geometry. Delta Rim Technology not only speeds up the profile, but also improves cornering by providing additional tire support. The sidewall-to-nose profile minimizes wind effects, resulting in higher speeds and better handling in all riding conditions.
tubeless
Over the past decade, tubeless has been touted as the wave of the future, when in fact it is the wave of the present. If you haven't tried tubeless before, we encourage you to give it a try. At Astral, tubeless compatibility is a priority. As such, all rim profiles are optimized for easy tubeless compatibility by providing a deep center channel or "drop channel" that aids tire mounting and tubeless tire performance. In addition, the bead seat diameter has been adjusted to facilitate inflation and secure mounting.
PROCESS
Fatigue Drum Tester
Testing in the field is important, but it can take time to find the desired problem. What if you could simulate the rigors of road and trail use in a controlled environment in a short period of time? That is what the Astral-owned Fatigue Drum Tester does. With this machine, you can put thousands of miles worth of vibration on a rim in just a few days and watch the process carefully from start to finish.
Impact test
We know that it is inevitable that the rim will hit something, on or off the road. Astral's impact testing is multifaceted: we perform standard tests, including UCI tests, of course, but we also perform more intense impact tests to ensure that our products pass higher and more stringent standards.
Impacts also do not occur in isolation. What happens when a carbon clincher uses a lot of braking and then hits a hole in the road surface? We can handle such situations. The way we do it is by heating the rim once and then impacting it, and we have confirmed in-house that all factors are covered.
Stiffness test
There is much debate about how important the driving performance and stiffness of a wheel is, but there are a wide variety of factors that affect stiffness. Not all of them have a lateral influence. Some are influenced by the rim itself and other components, and Astral's stiffness testing includes the use of a stiffness tester, which combines loads from multiple directions to provide a detailed picture of how the rim and wheel will behave under various load arrangements. This allows the rim profile and other elements to be adjusted to improve the wheel's driving performance and behavior.
