[Back in stock!] BASSI from Montreal

Long time no see. This is Rintaro.

From Montreal, Canada comes BASSI, a brand telling the world that "the bicycle is the best way to discover new environments and the best mode of transportation."

We started carrying BASSI last winter, and thanks to you all, we've had a great response, leaving us quite low on stock—so this is a restock announcement.

The Versatile All-Road Touring/Commuter with Standard Specs:
Hog’s Back

【BASSI BIKES】
Hog’s Back Frame Set

Color:Cool Ade, Pink, Loch Ness
Size:S(47cm), M(51cm), L(54cm)

The Hog’s Back is an all-road touring frame designed based on the years of riding experience accumulated by C&L CYCLES.

It's a bike that combines practicality, functionality, and a touch of pop style.

The Hog’s Back is one of the most off-road capable bikes in the BASSI lineup, and it can be built for a wide variety of purposes.

It features disc brakes, generous tire clearance, and plenty of mounting options.

Furthermore, the frame set itself uses very standard specifications, making it a versatile bike that doesn't limit how you choose to build it.

The fact that a center kickstand plate is welded to the frame for everyday use really shows that they "get it."

Let's build your one-of-a-kind bike that fits your riding style perfectly.

The Cute Step-Through Bike: Rachel

【BASSI BIKES】

Rachel

Color:Fondue, Monet
Size:47cm, 51cm, 55cm

Named after the street where C&L CYCLES’ flagship store is located, this frame features a top tube that slopes downward toward the saddle.

It provides extra clearance when mounting the bike, making it a perfect match for smaller riders or anyone wearing a skirt.

I think it's the perfect choice for smaller riders who struggle to find the right bike size.

Building it up as an everyday commuter with a basket and fenders is great, and setting it up with drop bars for touring looks fun too.

(Our new staff member, Chan-Mai, fell in love with this frame at first sight and just finished building hers with drop bars for touring and commuting. Stay tuned, we'll feature her bike soon!)

Also, Julian from C&L CYCLES, who has visited Circles before, apparently owns a Rachel and posted an article in the reader's rig section on Bikepacking.com.

What surprised me was the frame size. I remember him being a little smaller than me (174cm), but his Rachel is a 59cm!!!

Even with promenade-style handlebars, that's huge! But that is the potential of a step-through frame.

It seems it's being used as his everyday bike. The parts he's using are seriously cool, so the article is a must-read. The "parts-bin build" feel is truly stylish.

So, the sizes we have in stock this time are 47, 51, and 55. We decided to bring in larger frames too.

It might be a bit tight with drop bars, but with promenade-style bars that curve toward you, the sizing is roughly as follows:

  • For 150-160cm, size 47
  • For 160-169cm, size 51
  • For 170-175cm, size 55

It can vary depending on stem length and handlebar shape, so feel free to consult with us if you're unsure. Or, come by the shop and straddle one yourself.

Let's build a crazy (cute) bike with a cool step-through frame.

The Classic and Versatile Bike: Montréal

【BASSI BIKES】

Montréal

Size:46cm, 49cm, 52cm

It seems this bike was ridden unofficially among friends at C&L CYCLES for a long time. Due to popular demand, it joined the BASSI lineup and has become quite a popular model in their home city of Montreal.

Circles Tokyo recently built one up.

Wow, this is cool.
The parts are assembled with urban life—specifically Tokyo life—in mind. With just enough parts, it's a clean bike without being over the top.

Seeing a bike like this makes me feel like I could lead a fun, everyday life; just looking at it is exciting.

Equipped with rack eyelets and a sufficient number of bottle cage bosses, it should also serve well for touring purposes.

Also, like the SURLY Cross-Check, the dropouts are designed so that it can be built as a single-speed or with gears. It's called semi-horizontal dropouts.

The Montreal and Rachel have a rear spacing of 132.5mm, making them compatible with both 130mm and 135mm OLD hubs.

This is a C&L CYCLES staff bike.
Honjo fenders, downtube shifters, cantilever brakes, hub dynamo. Rene Herse cranks, and is that an old Campy front derailleur?
It’s a bike that balances usability and ride quality perfectly.
So classy!

BASSI is a bicycle brand highly recommended by the Circles staff.
