[dead stock] AT-2 LF Handle bar
Flat bars that combine control and comfort
The use of flat bars on MTBs comes from their ease of control.
The straight, horizontal shape is ideal for absorbing shocks from the ground with your arms and for controlling your own body weight and the bike itself.
However, for long-duration rides such as day trips or touring, constantly gripping a handlebar at this angle places a strain on the wrists. In fact, in the 90s, bikers of that era suffered from wrist and arm pain due to this stress. The so-called tendinitis, if you will.
At the same time, KOGA MIYATA (MIYATA is Japan’s oldest bicycle brand), which had long-distance touring bikes in its lineup, developed the "Combi Bar," a chimera-like handlebar that was a cross between a flat bar and a drop bar, which eventually led to the release of handlebars with end bars like this AT-2 into the world market.
Later, in racing scenes, these end bars became less common because they were dangerous if they got caught on other riders, and as technology advanced, handlebars became wider.
Now is the time for bikes built for "play."
The bar end may have faded from popularity, but was the product itself really to blame?
Back then, criteria were heavily weighted toward racing, but today, while racing remains a category, aren't there more products focusing primarily on "fun rides"? (Gravel bikes are a perfect example.)
The excellent control of a flat bar combined with the comfort of vertically extended end bars creates a balanced handlebar that makes both challenging climbs on the way to the trail and long-distance rides more comfortable. There is no doubt that it is a very reassuring and fun item for playful riding scenarios.
The AT-2 is a bullhorn bar made of lightweight 7000-series aluminum alloy. The exquisitely bent curves of the "horns" fit your hands perfectly and support your ride.
Consider this for your next flat bar custom or when building a new bike.
By the way, we also offer the tougher and wider SIMWORKS Calsaga Handle Bar.
