Sacoche is a word of French origin for a “small bag” or “shoulder bag.”
Cyclists know it as the term for the simple shoulder bag used to hand food and bottles up to riders during road races, and outside that context you rarely used to hear it.
In the past few years, however, outdoor brands with roots in ultralight and MYOG (Make Your Own Gear) have also been making products under the name sacoche, and it has become an everyday word.
Once a shoulder bag made of thin cloth with a strap you couldn't even adjust, these days you see many made from all sorts of fabrics and packed with features.

It was against that backdrop that TADE QUI developed this sacoche x SACOCHE.
The product name uses the generic word sacoche, which felt a little odd when it first came out, but by now it has become a familiar thing: say “the TADE QUI sacoche” and this is the one!

They also made it for us as one of last year's 19th-anniversary items, and since then it has steadily arrived and sold out, over and over.
The sacoche x SACOCHE came back in stock the other day, so let me introduce it once again.
A sacoche made for riding

The first feature I want to tell you about has to be this: in addition to the shoulder strap, there is a second strap anchored at the bottom of the bag.

Bring it around your body and hook it onto the shoulder strap, and the bag won't slide round from your back while you're riding.
Even when you're out of the saddle giving it everything, the bag stays put on your back without swinging.

There's also an external pocket; keep the wallet or keys you want quick access to in there and you can take them out smoothly without taking the bag off.
The body has a decent gusset, so although it's compact it holds a good amount.
A wallet, a smartphone, a tenugui towel and a camera with the lens taken off all fit with room to spare.
On top of that, you can even get something like a single T-shirt in.
The other sacoche

And for those unplanned purchases, such as the tasty-looking vegetables you came across at a roadside station or the autumn clothes you stumbled on at a select shop in town, it's time for the other sacoche, which is stowed inside the small pouch that comes with it.

Move all the straps over, and in no time you have a completely different sacoche.
The fabric is thin, but it's CORDURA® 30D Ripstop Nylon, which has real strength.

CORDURA® 30D Ripstop Nylon is light and supple yet resistant to tearing, and it packs down thin and small, making it well suited to packable items.
Even when you put in something with a bit of weight, like vegetables or books, it takes the load more solidly than it looks.
Small, but thoughtful touches

Incidentally, the strap is slim, but with the kind of weight this sacoche can hold, you needn't really worry about it making your shoulder sore.

Also, every strap attachment point uses a swivel hook.
So even if a strap gets twisted in use, you can easily straighten it out again.
It's a minor detail, but this kind of consideration is what makes TADE QUI products so appealing.
They really do think of everything, you might say.
A small one and a big one.
Yes, just as the name sacoche x SACOCHE suggests, this product is a small main sacoche and an accompanying big sacoche that together make one thing.
Four colors have arrived this time: Ivory, Grey, Khaki and Black.
The main material for all of them is KONBU NYLON, an ultra-stiff nylon made in Japan.

At first glance it looks like canvas, but it's 100% nylon: highly durable, lightweight and water-repellent, too.
The accompanying CORDURA® 30D Ripstop Nylon comes in White, Grey, Beige and Black, each paired tone on tone with the main bag.

Originally a makeshift bag for cyclists, the sacoche is now loved by non-cyclists as well, and we've come to see many with all sorts of fabrics and features.
And TADE QUI's sacoche x SACOCHE is that sacoche thought through once more from a cyclist's point of view.

The Rider’s Wallet has arrived, too.
This time we've also received from TADE QUI the Rider’s Wallet, one of the brand's signature items.

The well-received CORDURA® 500D MIL-SPEC camouflage patterns, CORDURA® x SPECTRA® 210D Ripstop and others are in, and a model in KONBU NYLON, the same fabric as the sacoche x SACOCHE, has newly joined the lineup as well.
