It’s hot out there, isn't it? Nothing says summer like nagashi somen (flowing noodles)! I don't know if that's common knowledge in Los Angeles, but moving on—do you know Kyle, the guy on the far left of the photo?
Kyle is the boss of the LA bike shop Golden Saddle Cyclery, or GSC for short. "Boss" might make him sound like a mob kingpin, but he’s not the type to strut around with a chip on his shoulder; he’s a genuinely great guy who has created a place where everyone feels at home—a real sanctuary for the community.
The Smog Cutter Bar is a handlebar that he and SimWorks collaborated on last year and the year before. We said it would be limited at first, but this is already the 3rd lot. It seems that his proposal for a bar suited for a relaxed bike setup has struck a chord with many riders.
Since this restock is also a limited production run (in very small quantities), we are restricting sales to GSC and Circles only. If you missed out last time or the time before, don’t let this opportunity slip away.

It uses the shape of the Nitto M106 SSB, meaning a short reach (78mm) and a shallow drop (128mm). However, this one is quite wide at 480mm (center-to-center) and has no flare. That part of it has a bit of a rugged feel.
The project started in 2018. Speedvagen was looking to define a new style for their Ready Made lineup and hosted an online contest called #WorksShopBuildOff. Kyle was tapped as the designer, and the result of that project was this track bike.

According to Kyle, the concept was: "The most comfortable track bike I've ever ridden—even more comfortable than that. A track bike with a gear ratio that would make street kids laugh. A track bike with drop bars wider than most cyclocross bikes." The bike was photographed with the 450mm SimWorks Wonderer Bar (also based on the M106), but the truth is, the Smog Cutter was originally designed specifically for this bike.
If you haven't been able to get your hands on one yet, this is your third chance. We only make them when Kyle asks, so be sure to grab one while you can.
