Nagoya’s cherry blossoms bloomed four days earlier than usual this year, perhaps nudged along by the sudden arrival of warmer weather.
Was it this seasonal shift we were all waiting for?
Products from Nissen Cable—a historical Japanese manufacturer that has been producing bicycle cables and wires for seventy years since its founding—have been released by our reliable friends at SimWorks.

While most outer cables are typically packaged in 2m lengths, the entire SimWorks by NISSEN lineup comes pre-cut to 3m.
Considering the recent rise in disc brake-equipped bikes, the diversification of cable routing, wider handlebars, and the use of full-length outer housing, this practically eliminates the worry of falling short on length.
This new lineup features two types of stainless steel flat-wire coil outer cables (for brakes and shifting), and two types of classic-looking Heritage outer cables (French and Italian styles for brakes).
[Stainless Outer Cable]
for Brake – 3m ¥2,000 (excl. tax)
for Shift – 3m ¥2,400 (excl. tax)
[Heritage Outer Cable]
French for Brake – 3m ¥2,800 (excl. tax)
Italian for Brake – 3m ¥3,000 (excl. tax)
Also released simultaneously are the Nissen inner wires, known to many by their common name, SP31.
These inner wires are crafted with a special structure that offers high rigidity against stretching while remaining highly flexible—essentially supple yet stretch-resistant.
[SP31 Inner Wire]
for Brake (Road – Shimano / Sram) 2m x 2pcs ¥2,500 (excl. tax)
for Brake (MTB) 2m x 2pcs ¥2,500 (excl. tax)
for Shift (Shimano / Sram) 2.3m x 2pcs ¥2,650 (excl. tax)
The standout feature of Nissen cables and wires is their "suppleness."
Being supple means they are easy to handle, allowing for clean and stress-free cable routing. This optimal routing results in lighter lever action and extends the lifespan of the entire system on your bike.
Additionally, the stainless steel construction adds weather resistance, further refining daily performance even on bikes subjected to heavy use.
They also possess "high reliability."
High reliability isn't just about simple durability; it’s more about the philosophy of "not shipping anything that lacks durability," a quality often hidden beneath the specifications.
Manufacturing products that earn such trust is no easy feat. It requires repeated testing and thorough, meticulous inspections—and never cutting corners on that effort.
Nissen Cable’s mindset, it seems, is unwavering in its commitment to building a foundation that safely and reliably supports daily rides.
How is this "lifeline"—which must never break—actually manufactured? When you unravel the reasons why and the techniques used, it all comes down to: everything for the sake of safety. The passion of Nissen Cable’s representative, Mr. Sadotani, is poured into every single coil.
It is precisely this everyday performance, which anyone can use with confidence, that makes these products a source of firm, reliable trust for users.
No matter how widespread electric shifting or hydraulic disc brakes become, we believe that cable-actuated systems will never disappear.
While mechanical, there is a joy in the direct connection—every movement you make travels through that single wire along the frame, allowing you to feel the subtle vibrations of the mechanical parts working. It’s as if the cable becomes a nerve, giving you the pleasure of controlling your bike as if it were an extension of your own body.
Beyond being stylish, we encourage you to experience the high reliability and everyday performance of Nissen Cable.
