Time flies, and before we know it, 2021 will give way to 2022. Looking back at this year’s SimWorks products, the most sensational one was undoubtedly the Bubbly Pedal. It sold out immediately upon arrival, causing quite a stir from the very beginning of the year. Now, that same Bubbly Pedal has come to shake things up once again with some big news to close out the year. It is without a doubt the face of 2021.
Bubbly Ezy Superior
For those of you looking at the eye-catching image, you’re not seeing things. A new version of the Bubbly featuring a quick-release mechanism—the Bubbly Ezy Superior—has joined the lineup.
With its concave shape that’s easy to pedal on, triple-sealed bearings for overwhelming rotation, and an irregular bubble pattern on the side plates... the Bubbly is packed with ideas from MKS and SimWorks. To have the Ezy Superior mechanism added to such a wonderful pedal is like a dream come true. MKS and SimWorks fans have surely fantasized about this at least once.
What’s so great about Ezy pedals?
Let’s look at three scenarios that show just how convenient it is to be able to "easily remove your pedals."
Ezy Rinko (Bicycle Transport)
It is no exaggeration to say that the Ezy series shines brightest in this scenario. When taking a bike on a train (rinko), you remove the wheels and pedals before putting the frame into a transport bag, but taking the pedals off is honestly a bit of a hassle. You definitely shouldn’t leave them on, as they’ll poke you in the side and hurt.
Also, since Ezy pedals can be detached from the shaft, you don’t have to worry about touching dirty grease. This also significantly reduces stress.
The Bubbly Ezy Superior comes with a dedicated case, so just stow them away in the pouch once you’ve taken them off.
Ezy Pedal Swapping
Ezy Superior pedals are compatible with other pedals in the Ezy Superior series.
※Ezy Superior is NOT compatible with the standard Ezy system. Please be careful, as this is a common mistake!
In other words, you can change your pedals to suit the type of ride or the conditions of the day. You might want to have both a flat type and a clipless type on hand, or if you own multiple bikes, it’s a good idea to just keep the adapters on the cranks. Naturally, MKS has you covered there too.
Ezy Security
The Bubbly pedal is highly acclaimed not just in Japan, but overseas as well. Its share of the market is growing not only in North America but also throughout Asia.
However, theft of expensive and rare bicycles remains a constant issue in many areas, and there is a strong demand for countermeasures. Removing your pedals when you dismount is an effective way to prevent ride-off theft, and it can be used in combination with a key lock to increase security. Sadly, theft is a persistent problem here in Japan as well. You are the only one who can protect your bike, and using the Ezy system for theft prevention is just as valid here in Japan.
Simplicity is Wonderful
I think the Ezy system really shortens the transition between your bike and other modes of transport. It would be amazing to be able to board a car, train, or airplane with your bike without any stress. Reducing the hassle of transitions and making your rinko smooth might just inspire new ride plans! The Bubbly pedal, born for long-distance tourers, connects the bike to the rider, while the Ezy mechanism will bridge the gap between the rider and other modes of transit.
Have you made plans for your long vacation yet? If you spend the end of the year spinning your pedals like a prayer wheel in uncharted territory, I’m sure happiness will follow you into the new year!
