The mountain has moved.

OMM LITE/BIKE and the INABU1300TOUR—the mountains across the country look set to be lively this weekend.

In the midst of all this, a certain girl said to me, "Take me to the mountains."

So, I decided to set up my Surly Long Haul Trucker, which usually serves as my commuter, for some mountain riding. I swapped the tires to FAIRWEATHER for XC Tires By CG to get as much "nobby" traction as possible, and while the bike originally came with cantilever brakes, I switched them out for V-brakes so she could enjoy riding in the mountains with peace of mind.

You might be thinking, "Rim brakes in this day and age?!" But at the end of the day, it's a bike meant for everyday use, and she's not going to be riding recklessly, so as long as she can enjoy the mountains on a bike she's used to, that's all that matters. When I looked around for V-brakes that could be used with confidence, most of what I found were just black or gray, mechanical-looking things.

With disc brakes now the norm, V-brakes are disappearing from the options, so I'm really glad that such beautiful ones as the DXR are still around. Thank you, Shimano!

【SHIMANO】 DXR V-Brake BR-MX70 ¥4,290

DXR, Shimano's BMX component line, is a hidden gem that still features a beautiful silver finish even today. Originally intended for BMX racing, it's set up only for the rear, but if you swap the brake shoe orientation, it provides reliable stopping power that works perfectly for all-terrain bikes, touring bikes, and commuters.

【SHIMANO】 DXR Brake Lever BL-MX70 ¥3,570 (per side)

We also have the matching brake levers in stock. Since they are V-brake compatible, they also work with mechanical disc brakes. Paul components are great, as goes without saying, but personally, these levers are more than enough. If you're looking to upgrade from cantilever to V-brakes for a little more stopping power, why not consider these?

And so, with her bike now ready, she will be heading to Inabu this Saturday. Have a great time! By the way, the deadline for tour registration is tonight, and since the weather looks like it will be nice this weekend, why not go and join in?
