At the beginning of this year, we received a consultation from a man who is indispensable when talking about the Breadwinner family here in Japan, our Breadwinner Japan Branch Manager (a title we bestowed upon him ourselves). It was for his second HoleShot, which is a pure cyclocross racer within the Breadwinner lineup.
Having long enjoyed racing with cantilever brakes, he had experienced the benefits of disc brakes since getting his B-Road, so this time he decided to order a disc brake-equipped version. Naturally, he chose red for his second one.
Why choose a steel frame for cyclocross racing? Isn't lighter always better? Well, of course, lighter is better. But we don't make our living from racing, and on holidays without races, we simply want to enjoy the ride. That leads us to the peace of mind that comes with a tool that can be used for a long time.
And if it fits your body perfectly, you become one with the bike, and it moves beautifully. This is a matter of philosophy. In fact, I believe that’s exactly why he said, "I want my second bike to be a Breadwinner too."
And it is Tony Pereira and Ira Ryan who bring those thoughts to life. Bikes created based on the experience of these true, authentic cyclists offer a lively, nimble ride regardless of the model, captivating anyone who swings a leg over them. The HoleShot, in particular, incorporates a lot of feedback from Ira, who is a regular in local CX races. Although he became a father this year and stepped back from the front lines of racing, he still enjoys riding and racing.
For the part assembly, he chose GEVENALLE shifters, also based in Portland, and TRP HYRD brakes. Despite their beautiful finish, the WHITE INDUSTRIES cranks efficiently convert the rider's pedaling power into forward momentum. The EASTON rims offer a good balance of strength and weight, and personally, they are a rim I would recommend right alongside the HED Belgium.

As a busy family man, he got a later start to the season than usual, but he was already out enjoying the race at Makino this past weekend. The All-Japan Championships are over, and while we're at the halfway point of the CX season, for him, the real challenge starts now. He will surely embody the Work Hard Ride Home style by riding to races in his home region of Tokai.
