KONA Humuhumu is back!!

From KONA, the only complete bike brand that Circles has carried since our founding, that legendary bike has returned!

Its name is the Humuhumu.

Since its birth in 1992, it has been a legendary model that has stood out even in KONA's long history and has been loved by many fans. After disappearing from the lineup for a while, it has returned in 2026 with a fresh update.

Greatly influenced by the "Klunker," the origin of the MTB, its distinctive silhouette—with its double top tube, motocross-style handlebars, and aesthetic more reminiscent of a beach cruiser than a standard MTB—is truly unique.

It is a model with a long history of providing convenience and fun as a means of transportation for those who appreciate its comfortable geometry, practical and low-maintenance parts, and above all, its classic style.

At Circles, we have frequently recommended it to those looking for a bike for everyday use.

It has returned as a modern klunker

With the Humuhumu back as a modern klunker, let's take a closer look at the details.

Serious underpinnings: Boost thru-axles

Early models used the 100mm/135mm quick-release frame standard, but the biggest change in this update is that both the front and rear now use the Boost standard.

This improves traction, allowing you to enjoy it not just as a cruiser, but also giving it the potential for trail rides if you swap in block tires.

The all-terrain capability of 29-inch tires

While many early models were 26-inch, some later models adopted 29-inch wheels. This new model also features 29-inch wheels.

The complete bike comes equipped with 29x2.25" tires. You won't have to worry about small bumps in the city, and it provides peace of mind on the trails. That high level of capability gives you a bit of "leisurely confidence" even when just cruising through town.

The official maximum tire size is also 2.25", but personally, I think it would be fun to put some ULTRA DYNAMICO Mars tires on it and hit the trails.

Single-speed is alive and well. Multi-speed is also an option!

As with past models, the single-speed configuration remains. That simplicity is truly part of what makes the Humuhumu what it is.

The 32x18T setup handles everything from urban cruising to trail riding, and you can, of course, change the gear ratio to your liking later on.

This model uses sliding dropouts, also featured on the brand's Unit and Unit-X models. Since the rear hub is a freewheel hub that supports multi-speed conversions, you can set it up with gears in the future if you choose.

A cockpit with overwhelming presence

The stock handlebars, which feature a crossbar reminiscent of motocross bars, measure an impressive 820mm wide.

Thanks to the perfect amount of rise and back sweep, they offer comfort. Sometimes aggressive, sometimes casual. Whether it’s your daily commute, grabbing these bars can turn your ride into the best kind of playground.

The complete bike spec is great, but there's room to customize later

Honestly, this is a bike you can ride as-is without changing a thing, yet you can also enjoy different styles just by swapping tire patterns. Personally, I'd be perfectly happy riding it with this exact specification. That’s the level of its completeness.

However, beyond the aforementioned multi-speed capability, it also secretly includes routing for a stealth dropper post, making it a bike that leaves plenty of room for future upgrades!

Bicycles aren't just about chasing specs

That is exactly what the KONA brand and this Humuhumu teach us.

Whether it's relaxed cruising around town or intentionally taking it to the mountains to enjoy the feel of the dirt, this kind of unserious-yet-serious approach is what suits it best.

It's tough, beautiful, and above all, incredibly fun.

With this bike, which is packed with the KONA spirit, where would you go for a ride?
