I recently wrote an article about my bike, introducing my Rew10Works as a jack-of-all-trades by showcasing photos from the rides and races I’ve used it for so far.
While you might notice the gear for bikepacking or long-distance touring, has anyone realized that my wheels are actually a little different each time? Yes, I actually use four different rear wheels for this one bike.
A fixed-gear wheel, two single-speed (dingle) freewheel options, and an Alfine Di2. All of them use Velocity Aileron rims, 135mm spacing, and are disc-brake compatible.

Here’s how I use them:
- Single-speed freewheel for touring with hike-a-bike sections and CX races
- Fixed-gear for daily riding and just messing around
- Alfine Di2 when I want gears for long-distance road rides
It goes without saying, but each one turns it into a completely different machine.
While my single-speed obsession is a bit of a unique setup, for modern all-road bikes, it could be a great idea to have separate wheelsets for road and gravel, or to have a dedicated set of "race wheels" for big events.
New wheels over a new bike
"New wheels over a new bike." That’s the slogan that opens the page for Gorilla Spun, Circles' recently revamped custom wheel-building department.
Beyond just building wheels for specific purposes, even for the same use, the ride quality changes significantly depending on the rim type or spoke tension. By exploring what kind of wheels work best for you—whether you prefer something stiff or compliant—you can find a whole new way to enjoy your bike.
Why settle for mass-produced wheels? Let’s build you a new set of hand-built wheels with precise customization!
