illuminate

While it’s great to head outside without letting the cold get to you, it’s not a bad idea to occasionally take it easy and refresh your mind and body.

A year and a half after their previous work, TERASU Vol.1 EARLY HUES, the long-awaited new installment has arrived.

TERASU Vol.2 CONNECTIVE TISSUE ¥6,000 (excl. tax)

In a departure from their previous work, which covered the fields TERASU inhabits (surfing, snowboarding, cycling, and food), this new release, CONNECTIVE TISSUE, is a photography book featuring four photographers and one microbiologist, focusing exclusively on the relationship between water and people.

This volume features these five individuals:

– Vashon Island by music and commercial filmmaker Amado Stachenfeld
– Rebun Island by food and commercial photographer Eric Wolfinger
– Microscopic photography by microbiologist Frances Tran
– Sea urchin and jellyfish hunting and cooking by TERASU founder Max Hauzegar
– Hokkaido by legendary Japanese snowboarder Taro Tamai

Also included is a bilingual (Japanese/English) essay supplement, which follows the same theme of water and people.

– Shinobu Namae, chef of L'Effervescence in Nishiazabu
– Microbiologist Dr. Frances Tran
– Katina Connaughton, farm director, and Aaron Koseba, chef de cuisine, of SingleThread in California
– TERASU founder Max Hauzegar
– Writer Dan Crockett

“Only the body is the truth. The body's fatigue, desires, anger, intoxication, confusion, exhaustion—these are the only truths. That is the first time we realize we are alive.” Taijiro Tamura, "Spring Maiden's Story," 1947

Water invites despair and washes things away, while at the same time bringing us awe, joy, and ecstasy.
We tend to distinguish these as opposites, but both despair and ecstasy give us the feeling of being alive. It could be said that it is proof of being human.

Water also awakens a consciousness of the flesh in a way nothing else can.

In our play and daily lives—through surfing, snowboarding, cycling, and food—we coexist closely with water. And this photography book illuminates the diverse ways of living that TERASU aims to showcase.

We also have a small amount of Vol.1 / EARLY HUES in stock. As we wait for winter to end, why not use the inspiration gained from their work to illuminate your own life?
