[BIKE FRIDAY] New World Tourist Disc

This is JUS…
I’m sorry, but I’ve been suffering from withdrawals this month. Total withdrawals. Yes, Rugby World Cup withdrawals… Oh, it’s all over…

Snap out of it, snap out of it, JUS!!
The France tournament in four years is waiting for you!!
With that said, I’m going to France in four years!!

Anyway, today I’d like to introduce a wonderful Bike Friday we just finished building.

The owner of this Bike Friday is a petite woman.
She already owns a Brompton, but for her daily commuter, and with the future goal of bike touring and bike packing using racks and carriers, she chose the New World Tourist Disc, which is particularly versatile for custom builds even among Bike Friday models.

Many Bike Friday head tubes use the oversize standard (some past models use a 1-1/4″ super oversize head tube). While there are many headset options available, we went with Chris King without hesitation.

The wide range of color variations and, above all, the peace of mind that they just don’t break. The fact that you can even choose to upgrade to a Chris King headset on the Bike Friday order page in their home country really speaks to the reliability of the brand.

The frame color for both the main frame and rear triangle was painted by Kyutai Paint. We had the owner visit the shop many times to settle on this “red,” and we proposed every shade imaginable.

Deep red, light red, purplish red, bluish red… red, red, red… and after being incredibly particular, she ended up choosing the very first red she picked.

That’s how it goes when you’re agonizing over a choice. First impressions are the best. The Bike Friday logo, which is slightly smaller than usual, was also custom painted.

Just like the headset, we assembled the bottom bracket with Chris King, and the cranks with White Industries M30, making it a spec so dazzling it’s hard to look at.

Oh!! And there’s something even more dazzling in there…

The owner, who also uses Phil Wood hubs on the front wheel of her Brompton, actually hand-spun that Brompton front wheel herself using the Culture Club rental pit. Too cool.

And for the brake calipers, at this point, there’s only one choice! Paul Component Klamper, SimWorks Edition. Beyond their beautiful looks, the ease of setting them up, the crisp feel, and the high stopping power make them, in JUS’s history, the best mechanical disc brake calipers.

The rims are Velocity CliffHanger, which are available in a 20-inch 406 standard. For tires, she chose Maxxis Grifter in 20×1.85, which look great for both on- and off-road use.

It’s great that the 20-inch 406 standard has more tire width options than the 451 standard for the same 20-inch size! And as for the New World Tourist Disc frame clearance, it can easily handle tires up to about 2.1 in width.

The handlebar is a Hunter Cycles Smooth Move bar cut down by 3cm on each side, with PDW Whiskey grips. Wide flat bars on a small-wheel bike can often throw off the aesthetic balance, but thanks to the bar being cut and having a nice back sweep, we were able to keep it balanced even on a compact Bike Friday.

To match the brake calipers, we naturally chose Paul Component Love Levers. I just love this combination way too much!!

A dream Bike Friday packed with the owner’s hopes and dreams. Without a doubt, this is a bike that will perfectly meet her needs for both daily use and the challenges she wants to take on in the future.

You can purchase Bike Fridays either as a complete bike from the manufacturer or as a frame only.
*In accordance with their policy to ensure safety and provide the best service, Bike Friday does not sell frames individually to any retailer. Please note that they will be built and delivered as a complete bike.

If you ask which is better? Personally, we specialize in building from the ground up, so we prefer purchasing the frame only. Talking things over with us—discussing what the parts will be used for, debating this and that—is, more than anything, the most fun part.

Of course, we also love it when you leave it all up to us!

If you are interested in a Bike Friday, please don’t hesitate to consult with Circles first, no matter what your question is!!!
