ACLIMA Woolnet Crew Neck

Yesterday, we were able to welcome the day with perfect weather.

For our 11th-anniversary ride, we spent a fulfilling day with friends we don't often get the chance to hang out with in our daily lives.

As for me, I organized a somewhat intense ride that involved crossing two mountain passes, Ninose and Ishigure, followed by a hike to the summit of Mt. Ryugadake. While I personally had a great time, what made me happiest of all was seeing the participants smiling and looking so satisfied.

Leading up to this "Year-End Ride over Yanase and Ninose" event, I had many worries about who would attend and what the weather would be like, and choosing the right gear was one of them.
I knew climbing would be hot, but that the hike to the 1099m summit after getting off the bikes would be cold, especially on the wind-swept peak, and that we would sweat a lot. As I imagined the various conditions, the conclusion was clear: the most important piece is the base layer.

For my jacket, I chose the Cafe du Cycliste Heidi Winter Jacket, which is indispensable for my winter rides every year (stock is getting low, and out-of-stock items are awaiting restock). For pants, I wore the same brand's Martine Winter Bib Tight (with Patagonia Baggies Pants on top for the hike), and for my base layer, I chose the ACLIMA / Woolnet Crew Neck.

I have been wearing it for four years now, but this event truly reminded me again of the exceptional functionality of this base layer.

The day was warmer than expected and the wind at the summit was mild, so while the sun was out, I was constantly sweating as I moved. However, as soon as I entered the shade or the sun began to set, I could feel the cold instantly.

Despite these extreme changes in conditions, the base layer’s excellent heat retention and quick-drying properties kept me warm without ever chilling my body. Furthermore, I didn't experience any of the unpleasant odors or stickiness typically associated with sweat-soaked clothing. Even after refreshing myself with a bath, I felt great and was able to enjoy a delicious meal in comfort.

Of course, even outside of situations like this, the base layer that touches your skin is incredibly important for various activities, including rides in the coming season as it gets colder, as well as hiking and winter sports. Please try wearing the ACLIMA / Woolnet Crew Neck and enjoy your winter activities in comfort!
