Circles Special Order RETROTEC Single Speed Mountain Bike

Once upon a time, Surly created a model called the 1x1. It was not just a bike frame, but a single speed bike with infinite possibilities (and imagination) in its extreme simplicity.

For our first MADE, we asked RETROTEC / RETROTEC Curtis to create a beautiful, simple, and uniquely Curtis bike that would carry on the 1 x 1 concept.

I knew before I placed the order that Curtis would make it look great, and when they did, the only thing that came out of my mouth was "awesome.
The smooth curve of the top tube and seat stays.
The slightly thicker chromoly tubing, painted in a single color.

The bikes he makes are equal parts playful and beautiful.
When ridden, they have a light coggyness that makes you want to scream in the mountains, and when set down and gazed at, they have a presence that quietly brings tears to your eyes.

This frame is the result of the intersection of his aesthetics, technology, and Circles-like selfishness.

Ultimate simplicity: no gearboxes, no extra cables, all you need is the power to pedal and the will to decide which way to go. Simplicity is the pure joy, pleasure, and pain of riding a bicycle.

Robust chromoly frame: supple yet extremely sturdy. It supports the rider on all surfaces, from pavement to rough terrain, and provides long-lasting reliability.

Too deep versatility: The bike has the grace of a single speeder, but can be fitted with bigger tires to make it an off-road partner, or with racks and fenders to make it a reliable commuter. It can be transformed into any style you can imagine, just as there have been models with both disc brakes and rim brakes.

Ease of maintenance: The simple construction minimizes the need for daily maintenance and repairs. This makes the relationship with a bicycle more accessible and enjoyable.
