Description
Tradition and innovation combine in the ultimate single speed disc hub for track bikes.
PAUL COMPONENT has been meticulously manufacturing bicycle components in a renovated garage in Chico, California since 1989, which was a former oil distribution facility for Texaco Oil until 1926. Paul believes that a great product should be based on simple ideas, easy maintenance, and a high level of functionality.
In 1996, PAUL COMPONENT created the world's first single-speed MTB hub, W.O.R.D.. The name stands for Wacky One Speed Rear Device, and at a time when 7-speed and 8-speed bikes were the norm, the idea of daring to remove the derailleur and enjoy a simple, tough bike was considered stubborn and a bit crazy. However, its uniqueness attracted many riders, and it soon became a cult favorite.
The Fixed Disk Word Hub is the answer to many riders' requests for the return of the fixed gear model, which was temporarily discontinued!
The secret of this hub's overwhelming smoothness lies in its extremely high-precision machining technology. The bearing bores are finished to an astonishing precision of only 0.0002" (about 1/8th the thickness of a hair) and use high-quality, user-adjustable sealed cartridge bearings. In addition, the hub shell design, honed through years of manufacturing and real-world riding, provides the ideal balance of light weight and rigidity to handle the toughest of riding with ease.
Meticulously machined piece by piece in our Chico, California workshop, these hubs are compatible with 142x12mm through-axles, allowing those frames to be fixed geared. The rotor base has 6 holes (ISO standard), and the design is beautifully machined down to the base, which not only looks great but also contributes to weight reduction. The traditional mid-flange silhouette and the latest technology are combined in this gem. Also included is a stainless steel locking ring for the fixed gear.
This hub is indispensable when planning to convert to tracklocross (惡路固定) or gravel-fixed.
