"Paramount," which was once positioned as a high-end racing model

SCHWINN was founded in Chicago, USA, in 1895 by Ignaz Schwinn. While many people associate the brand with beach cruisers, it has also produced and sold numerous road bikes and mountain bikes throughout its long history.

Among these, the “Paramount” was a racing model introduced in 1935.

During this era, as well as in the 1970s and 1980s, the industry frequently used increased exposure in races as a promotional strategy, which is why models like this were created.

Japan’s renowned BMX brand, KUWAHRA, also formed a racing team and achieved success back then—which, as it turned out, even led to their bikes being featured in the movie *E.T.*…

I digress, but since this frame is from that era, its design has some distinctive features.

The chainstays curve gently—likely a design choice to handle off-road vibrations—and the seat tube is flared near the bottom bracket to increase strength, revealing the ingenuity that went into its design.

You could build it with stiff components to capture the racing vibe of that era, or you could deliberately build it with a more relaxed setup for commuting.
