How about an MTB as a commuter bike?

At first glance, it looks like an old-school MTB, but if you take a closer look at the details, you’ll see it’s a frame that allows for some interesting builds.

The rear end, where the derailleur would normally be mounted, has a simple, reverse-mount design.

There’s no mount for a derailleur, so you could choose an old-school derailleur designed for this type of rear end, but personally, I have a feeling that building it as a single-speed would be a lot of fun and result in a really cool bike.

It’s like, “It’s a road-bike-style frame, but it can run 26-inch tires packed with volume—and it’s single-speed!?”

And if you build it this way, riding around town will definitely be a blast.

The agile 26-inch tires let you roll right over sidewalk curbs without a second thought, and tire pressure maintenance is kept to a minimum (though please do check it regularly).

In terms of size, this bike is suitable for riders 175 cm and taller. Since the top tube is on the longer side, two-piece handlebars like the Promenade Bar or the SURLY Sunrise Bar should work well.

If you fit tires like the SIMWORKS Volummy 26x2.3, you’ll get a smooth ride and a cute look.
