And so I returned to the mountains.
It’s as comfortable as ever.
There was a new helper.
The dog is lazy as always.
I wonder who he takes after.
Actually, he’s a guy who gets the job done when it counts.
He takes after someone else, too.
And I thought that there is nothing better than a beer in the afternoon.
Though I drink at night, too. And I think that’s good as well.
Sometimes it’s good to do this.
Forgetting all about bicycles, spending time leisurely with people I feel comfortable with.
Things I’d forgotten come back to life.
It’s also a moment where my own rushing seems foolish.
But you also need to look ahead.
It’s a cycle of those two things.
Breakfast is also the best.
Then I map out a strategy.
Not for work.
For how to play.
And I decide to head out into town.
It’s Santa Cruz.
There’s the ocean, and there are mountains.
I feel like it’s a town built by geniuses of play.
Maybe we’ll find that kind of potential, too.
People say hobbies are important, but sometimes I think such stiff words should just fly away somewhere.
It’s just play at most, and if you get down to it, it’s just life.
There are respectable adults who get worked up over this “just play.”
Perhaps for them, it’s no longer just play.
It has transformed into something noble called a "proper hobby."
There’s nothing more unsightly than thinking you can’t play unless you do it properly.
I don’t want that to happen to bicycles, but it’s certainly starting to go that way.
And there are times when I feel myself being pulled into that gravity too.
Let’s play more and more.
