When the rider changes, the bike changes too.
In this post, we’re introducing a rebuild of a SURLY Steamroller that was passed down from a friend.
Originally built with drop bars for a sporty feel, we customized it so the owner can ride in comfort and enjoy the scenery. Let’s take a look at the before and after.
It went from this...

...to this!!

Isn't it incredible?!
By adding a basket for errands and installing upright handlebars, we’ve created a bike that’s perfect for daily use while maintaining that old-school vibe!
Tires suited for the daily commute: Teravail Cannonball
Since the owner often rides on sandy coastal roads, we installed TERAVAIL Cannon Ball tires.
The tightly packed center tread resists mud and gravel buildup, while the low knobs ensure a smooth roll.
And if you want to hit the trails, those side blocks are ready for off-road action.

Pay attention to those spacers
It’s a waste to think of spacers as just a way to adjust stem height. With options like adding accent colors or varying thicknesses, you have total freedom in how you style them.
The spacers used here are SIMWORKS With Me Crmo Spacer.
I personally love this look—using alternating thicknesses while keeping the same color palette.

Why not bring that bike sleeping at home back to life?
At Circles, we’re always here to help with those kinds of projects.
