[BIKE of the WEEK] Steven’s Doppo ATB

As those who have read Makoto-san's blog may already know, I've come to Portland for the first time in a while to exhibit at MADE as SimWorks. In fact, I came down with a fever right after arriving and was bedridden for a full day (lol), but I’ve recovered and am now in the middle of serious preparations for the show.

I'll save the details about the show for another time, so today I'd like to do a bike check of the Doppo ATB ridden by SimWorks USA's very own Steven.

Huge! An XXL-sized Doppo ATB

Standing at 193cm tall, Steven rides a size XXL Doppo ATB. We have sold this frame size through SimWorks USA before, but this is my first time seeing one actually built up with my own eyes. He has it set up with 700C wheels, but they look like 650Bs no matter how you look at them. From my 163cm perspective, that balance that only a frame this size can achieve is nothing but pure jealousy. It’s not fair.

Oh, and did you know we carried the Doppo ATB in sizes up to XXL? If you're on the taller side and reading this, I truly hope you’ll consider it as an option for your next bike.

With that said, let's take a look at Steven's bike.

Those who know Steven well might know this already, but he is actually the person who spearheaded the SimWorks Doppo High Plains Drifter project. Staying true to his style, he has put together this Doppo ATB with a chic, earthy color palette.

Wheels built with ASTRAL OUTBACK rims

As mentioned earlier, he chose 700C tires, fitting them with 43mm wide The Homage tires. He apparently took this bike back to his home state of Michigan during summer vacation, and he mentioned that these tires provided a comfortable ride even on the country roads back home.

By the way, the wheels in question were hand-spanned using the OUTBACK model from ASTRAL, a rim manufacturer based in Eugene, Oregon. We’ve already placed an order for this brand’s rims at Circles, so look forward to us carrying them in the near future.

Main components: Silver GRX

For the main components, he chose the GRX Limited, combining it with a silver SimWorks cockpit for a build that is modern yet classic. The choice of a BROOKS saddle and BTP bar tape are personal touches that I feel are very "Steven." Sharp observers might be thinking, "Wait, what about the handlebars?" Don't worry, those are set to be announced soon, so please stay tuned.
