The Logic of Beauty
We find beauty in the changing of the four seasons, the scenery, the scents, and the atmosphere of each time of year. In the same way, we find beauty in things created by human hands, such as art, architecture, and product design.
Perhaps there is a mechanism—a "logic"—within such artifacts that compels us to find them beautiful.
And this bicycle, too, has that logic of beauty woven into its design.

In this week's BIKE of the WEEK, we are introducing the RITCHEY Road Logic Disc, currently available in our shop.
With the current gravel boom, bikes with larger tire clearances are highly sought after, so it might be rare to see a steel road frame this pure.
However, being a pure steel road frame is only a small part of this bike's appeal; the "logic of beauty" as envisioned by RITCHEY is alive in every detail.
Tire clearance in perfect balance
Tire clearance is up to 700x30c. It’s neither too wide nor old-fashionedly narrow. About 700x28c is just right for agile riding on mountain passes and slightly rough paved roads.
Slim tubing
Steel frames are beautiful because the tubes that compose them are slim and delicate. To emphasize that beauty, the head tube uses a 1-1/8″ oversize standard.
I don't know the exact reason they chose an oversize tube instead of a high-rigidity large-diameter or tapered head tube, but perhaps the logic of beauty is at work here as well.
For a delicate steel frame, the Sim Works Rhonda stem is a perfect match.
The way it smoothly transitions from the slim head tube, headset, and column spacers to the stem looks as if the parts were formed as a single unit.
The Rhonda stem was out of stock for a while, but a small quantity has recently come back into stock. Steel frame users, be sure to check it out.
The logic of beauty
Visual beauty and functionality are distinct things.
However, as terms like "functional beauty" suggest, there is a reason for beauty, and beauty resides in things that are functional.
