【BEDROCK SANDALS】For the changing seasons. HOW TO CARE!

Hello everyone! It’s Chan-Mai!

Our BEDROCK SANDALS care blog is becoming a yearly tradition.
Since the change of seasons is upon us once again, I’d like to present a new, definitive edition: HOW TO CARE!

I’m sure you’ve taken your BEDROCKs to plenty of places again this summer.
Before you know it, there’s mud on the soles and sweat and dust on the straps. Thinking back, we really played together quite a bit. Now is the perfect time to give your summer companion some love.

And, as the seasons change, so does our footwear.
The Mountain Clog has arrived in store, and many of you have already picked up a pair!

In previous blogs, we’ve introduced the different types of leather and how to style the Mountain Clog, but this time we’re going a step further to explain how to care for each specific material.

Since you’ve gone to the trouble of getting a pair you love, you’ll want to wear them comfortably for as long as possible.

So, today we’ll be introducing material-specific leather care for the Mountain Clog and how to clean the Cairn series that you’ve played to your heart’s content with this summer!

Mountain Clog Care

The Mountain Clog comes in models using different materials, including nubuck leather, suede leather, and synthetic suede.

Not only do they look and feel different, but their care methods also vary slightly.

"Leather seems kind of difficult to take care of..."

Some of you might have that impression, but it’s not difficult at all as long as you grasp the key points.

Let’s learn the characteristics of the materials and provide care suited to your own pair.

① Nubuck Leather

Let’s start with nubuck leather.

You might have the impression that leather requires a lot of effort to maintain.

But that’s part of the fun of natural leather—it gradually changes its appearance based on the care you give it.

Leather that felt supple when brand new can lose its oils over time due to exposure to sunlight and dryness, sometimes taking on a dry, papery texture.

It’s just like human skin. That feeling of wanting to moisturize when it gets dry.

Of course, enjoying the texture of well-worn leather is one of its charms.

However, if it gets too dry, the leather can stiffen or become prone to damage, so it’s important to provide proper care according to its condition.

Here are the care products I’m using this time.

STEP 1 | Remove surface dirt

First, use a soft brush or a dry towel to remove dust and dirt from the surface.

Dirt tends to accumulate in the fine gaps, so check the entire shoe carefully as you go.

STEP 2 | Apply the cream

Next, take a small amount of cream on a soft cloth and spread it bit by bit.

Don’t apply too much at once; add it in small amounts while checking how the leather reacts.

For detailed areas, I recommend using your fingertips to blend it in.

STEP 3 | Final wiping

Once the cream is blended throughout, gently wipe it off with a dry, soft cloth so there is no unevenness or excess residue.

And that’s it!

I hope you enjoy the time spent nurturing your own unique pair through repeated care.

*Depending on the cream used, nubuck may change in color or nap appearance. Always choose a product compatible with nubuck and test it on an inconspicuous area before full application.

② Suede Leather

Next up is suede leather.

For everyday maintenance, brushing is basically the main step.

Because it’s a napped material, simply brushing off dust and dirt frequently makes it easier to keep it in good condition.

When you're particularly worried about dirt, or before storing them away for a while, I recommend giving them a thorough cleaning using a dedicated cleaner.

Here are the care products I’m using this time.

STEP 1 | Brushing

First, use a soft brush to remove loose dirt and dust.

Gently brush to smooth out the nap.

STEP 2 | Clean with a dedicated cleaner

Dampen the leather according to the detergent’s instructions and use the cleaner to lift away dirt.

Again, the important thing here is to use a soft brush so as not to damage the leather.

Don't scrub with force; imagine gently lifting the dirt out of the material.

STEP 3 | Rinse and dry

If using a water-washable cleaner, rinse thoroughly following the product instructions to ensure no detergent remains.

If detergent residue is left behind, it can cause stains or unevenness after drying, so be careful with this step.

Once finished washing, let them dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded area.

Brushing to reset the nap after they are dry will give you a clean finish.

*Suede can suffer from color bleeding or staining due to moisture. Please confirm compatibility between the product and cleaner before full washing.

③ Synthetic Suede

Finally, synthetic suede.

This is a synthetic material different from natural leather, and its appeal lies in how easy it is to handle.

Basically, there’s no need for frequent special care.

When you notice dust or dirt, just use a soft brush to clean the surface.

If the dirt is severe, you can hand-wash them using a detergent compatible with the material.

However, be careful not to scrub too hard or use a washing machine, as this can damage the fabric and adhesive areas.

As with the others, please let them dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded area after washing.

Drying after washing is also important!

Common to all materials is the need to not neglect drying after washing.

Do not expose them to direct sunlight or dry them rapidly with a hair dryer; let them dry slowly in a well-ventilated, shaded place.

It is also important to ensure they are fully dry before wearing or storing them.

Clean up your Cairn series too!

Now, finally, the care for the Cairn series.

I’m sure many of you took these out into the wild this summer.

Entering rivers, walking through muddy paths, getting caught in the rain.

I personally love that I can use BEDROCK sandals without worrying about them getting dirty.

That said, even for a tough pair of sandals, it’s a shame to leave them dirty.

Let's give them a proper wash at the end of the season!

Here is the detergent I love using for cleaning the Cairn series.

[Photo/Product name of the detergent used]

First, rinse off the mud and sand on the entire sandal with water.

Next, using the detergent, gently brush the straps and footbed with a soft brush.

The detergent I’m using here lathers up immediately when applied directly to the sandals, so the process of removing dirt is very smooth.

The footbed, which touches your soles directly, is where sweat and sebum tend to accumulate. Wash it carefully, keeping the fine grooves in mind.

Finally, rinse the detergent off thoroughly and let them dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded area, and you're done!

*Please ensure the detergent you use is compatible with the sandal materials and follow the usage instructions.

Caring for your gear is part of the fun.

The charm of BEDROCK SANDALS is that you can wear them in the mountains, rivers, and the city without a second thought.

That’s exactly why you want to give them a little extra attention after playing hard.

Clean the dirt, check the condition, and provide care as needed.

By continuing to use them in this way, your gear gradually becomes a part of your life.

Say "thanks for everything this year" to your Cairn series that you spent the summer with.

And say "looking forward to working with you" to your new Mountain Clogs.

With the change of seasons, I hope you all take a moment to care for your favorite pair! 🤟
