“I can’t do it! I’m dying~~~……”
I’m actually quite fond of those hard rides where you push yourself to that point.
It’s not that I have endless stamina, but I love the huge sense of accomplishment, and, well, above all else, the alcohol and bath afterward are the best! (I also absolutely love the moment afterward when I just sprawl out on the bed, clutching my fatigue until I fall asleep…! Lol)
And so, I, Da-chan, participated in OMM BIKE for the first time!
Isn't it time to buy a second bike…?
In preparing to participate, I thought, "I want to go with a cool new partner!" and finally took the plunge to purchase my second bicycle.
My first is the SURLY Preamble, which I introduced on the blog.
The Preamble is a great bike for daily commuting and touring, but I felt it wasn't quite right for my recent "gravel craving" and "desire to climb some serious hills."
The partner that seemed like it could satisfy my cravings is this one…!

WILDE Supertramp (or "Super-Tra-chan")!
There are several points I really like, but I found this beautiful gradation (which is even more stunning in natural light) and the rounded top tube to be very charming.

Also, regarding the size issue which was crucial for me, there is a wide range of sizes available, and I (153cm) am riding the XS size.
Changing the subject slightly、、、
When I bought my Preamble, I realized that because I’m short, my frame options are limited. And when you finally decide on one, sometimes it’s out of stock or you’re left waiting for it to be ordered in, so I learned from my last purchase that “if you like it, decide on the spot!”—momentum is important.
I had chosen the XS frame size, but since I hadn’t seen it in person yet, I was inwardly worried that it might look awkward or too big on me. But it doesn't look too big at all…! And the sizing feels like it fits my body perfectly…!
Super-Tra-chan keeps on increasing my favorite points.
Let’s get picky with the parts!
Since I bought my Preamble as a complete bike, I was really excited this time that I could choose each part from scratch.
Well then, let me introduce some of the parts I was particular about!
First off, for the "headset, hubs, and BB," I went with my dream brand, CHRIS KING.

The sound of the hub ratchet while riding is irresistible!
This sound gets me so hyped that I want to listen to it forever.
I also hand-built the wheels myself this time, so I’ve had maximum attachment to them from the start. The time spent building the wheels while dreaming of my own bike was a moment of pure bliss.

For components, I went with SHIMANO DEORE XT so I could adequately satisfy my gravel cravings. Me with sparkling eyes over high-grade components. I’m going to have so much fun!

The brakes and stem are, yet again, from my dream brand PAUL COMPONENT.
That cool zebra-print stem is something you just have to include as a WILDE user.
I was worried it might be too flashy, but it doesn't stand out too much—it's quite understated, and the overall balance is great.
As for the brakes, beyond their visual beauty, you can take them completely apart for overhauls, so there's no doubt they’ll last a lifetime!
Since it was my first time choosing and building a bike from parts, I finished a bike I’m extremely satisfied with.

And for this OMM BIKE, I equipped it with the OUTER SHELL ADVENTURE bag and Jack The Bike Rack to carry my essentials, and off I went to the OMM BIKE venue in Hakuba!!
Testing Super-Tra-chan at OMM BIKE!
I’ve always loved mountaineering and have gone to Nagano many times, so I was really happy that the OMM venue was in Hakuba. Watching the Northern Alps from my car on the way to the venue, I couldn't stop my excitement, thinking, “It’s amazing that I get to ride my bike through a place like this!” (I always end up looking for Mt. Yari whenever I come to Nagano)

It rained on the morning of the first day of OMM BIKE, but the venue was bustling with excitement. We checked our equipment before starting and headed out into the rain!
It was absolutely the best, getting to ride with Super-Tra-chan in such a lovely location!
Since it looks big and has fairly fat 27.5×2.2″ tires, I anticipated that starting to pedal might feel a bit heavy, but it was lighter than I expected and moved along smoothly.
To collect points, we went through various routes including trails, dirt paths, and asphalt.
I’m not used to off-road riding, so I was worried about things like falling, but the ride was so stable that I forgot all about those worries. I'm really glad I found such a reliable partner that lets me follow the paths I want to take without hesitation.
So, how was your first OMM BIKE experience?
I’ve talked mostly about my second bike, but I really had a fun two days at OMM BIKE itself!
This time, I participated with my boyfriend. (He participated with his SURLY MIDNIGHT SPECIAL)

We had never done map reading before, so we were worried about whether we could figure out the route, but we gradually learned as we went, and we didn't get lost, so it wasn't a problem at all to not have prior knowledge of map reading.
That said, we naturally divided the roles: he became the map-reading lead, and I became the point-retrieval lead. (Essentially, he’s the brains, and I’m the muscle.) He decided which points to aim for, and if a point was located after a brutal hill, I’d head out first to grab it. This strategy worked really well. Lol

We worked hard to get points on the first day, but on the second day, we wanted to enjoy the Hakuba scenery, so we took it easy on the points, washed our muddy bikes in the river, and ate some delicious soba noodles.
I don't believe that collecting points is everything, so it’s an event that can be fully enjoyed even if you aren’t confident in your stamina. If you didn't participate this year, please try joining next year!
I don't think long-winded talk here will really convey how fun OMM BIKE is, so I'll wrap up this bike intro with some quintessentially Hakuba photos!
