That tire we unveiled at last year's MADE Bike Show has finally arrived.

Wanna go far – Faraway

A dream collaboration between TOMII CYCLES and SimWorks, brought to life, of course, by the titan of domestic tire manufacturing: Panaracer.

Named Faraway, this tire embodies the sentiment of Nao-san from TOMII CYCLES: "A tire that makes you want to ride forever and go anywhere."

Available in 700x40c, it features a fine-grain center pattern focused on smooth rolling on pavement, with the sidewalls marked with the scenery of the American Southwest that Nao-san has witnessed, true to the TOMII CYCLES aesthetic.

A quick refresher on TOMII CYCLES / and Nao-san

Many of you reading the Circles blog may already know him well, but let’s do a quick re-introduction.

TOMII CYCLES is the brand by Nao Tomii, a Japanese frame builder based in Austin, Texas.

Nao-san has a unique career path: he moved to the U.S. to study fine arts, worked as a sculptor and 3D artist in Boston, Massachusetts, and eventually discovered cycling—getting so hooked on the joy of it that he began frame building himself.

Faraway: What bike should you put them on?🌵

While gravel bike tires seem to be getting wider and wider these days, we’ve decided to launch the Faraway in a 700x40c size. So, what kind of bikes are best for them? Here are our recommended builds from the Circles perspective.

TOMII CYCLES / The Fat Canvas

First and foremost, this one. It’s no exaggeration to say these were made for this bike. TOMII CYCLES’ "The Fat Canvas" is Nao-san’s take on a gravel/all-road capable all-rounder.

In Austin, there aren't as many extremely rough gravel situations; there are more routes that connect paved roads with unpaved sections, making this size naturally very useful. It’s interesting how tires really reflect regional characteristics, isn't it?

By the way, this complete bike is currently for sale at Circles Tokyo. We also have stock frames in different sizes/colors currently being painted, so look forward to those!

SimWorks Doppo CX Racer(Proto Type)

Next is the Doppo CX Racer ridden by SimWorks family racer Katsuki-san. This is a special bike made experimentally to test our original dropouts and, unfortunately, isn't slated for sale, but we’ve mounted these tires to enjoy training rides and exploration rides now that the CX season has calmed down.

Since many CX-style bikes have a 40mm tire clearance, these are also a perfect choice for enjoying the CX off-season.

CRUST / Bombora Steel

The owner, who uses their bike for everything from commuting to weekend touring and gravel rides, rides a CRUST Bombora Steel.

Since they roll smoothly on pavement, they are great for commuting and feel nice when you want to extend your distance, and you won’t have to turn back when you find a gravel road along the way.

Unless the surface is extremely rough or muddy, you can have a lot of fun, and 700x40c is a "golden size" that fits easily within the clearance of most gravel/all-road bikes—and is perfectly suited for road conditions here in Japan.

We would be delighted if you installed them on your bike, took it many places, and left your own footprints. Nao-san and SimWorks would both be very happy for that.
