【SMITH OPTICS】Introducing the new 2022 helmet colorways!

Dug up some nostalgic photos from a few seasons ago. lol

SMITH OPTICS was born out of the development of the world's first anti-fog, dual-lens goggle. Since then, they have continued to develop innovative products in fields beyond goggles, such as sunglasses and helmets, and have always been a pioneer leading the world of winter sports.

They later developed a helmet featuring a honeycomb structure material called Koroyd, offering excellent breathability and impact resistance. Drawing on the know-how cultivated in winter sports, they developed mountain bike helmets and opened the door to the cycling scene in 2013. Today, their lineup has expanded to include road bike helmets, and they continue to gain new fans.

Koroyd

Used in SMITH OPTICS' high-end models, Koroyd is a honeycomb structure made of a polymer material molded into a hexagonal shape that provides higher impact absorption than EPS foam. By combining Koroyd with EPS foam, SMITH OPTICS cycling helmets offer over 48% more impact absorption than typical helmets. Furthermore, they provide excellent ventilation, consistently maintaining comfort inside the helmet.

At Circles, we have carried SMITH OPTICS helmets since they were first released in Japan, and they have continued to receive strong support every season. The reason for this is not just the functionality mentioned above, but also their unique coloring. They were quick to adopt matte, olive, and earth-tone colors like beige, which have now become mainstream.

We would like to introduce the new 2022 colors from SMITH OPTICS that have just arrived.

2022 NEW Colors

This season, we have received the Network MIPS for road cycling and the Session model for MTB/all-mountain.
The matte finish—which is trendy and easy to match with everyday clothes—and the two-tone color schemes that SMITH specializes in are even more eye-catching.

Koroyd-equipped Road Bike Helmet – Network MIPS

Network MIPS

COLOR:Matte French Navy/Rock Salt, Matte Spruce/Safari, Matte Blackout
SIZE:S, M, L
WEIGHT:300g(size M)
PRICE:¥27,500 (tax included)

Network: Functionality and Style in Balance

The NETWORK road model, a staple in our lineup at Circles, is perhaps the most well-balanced model in the entire range in terms of its looks, weight, and functionality. Its 20 ventilation ports keep your head comfortable. Crucially, the Koroyd is positioned on the sides, where you are most likely to sustain an impact in the event of a crash.

MIPS System for Improved Safety

It also adopts the MIPS system, which has become standard, reducing damage to the brain by creating a structure that allows impact energy to be deflected if you happen to fall.

Structure designed to hold eyewear

The AirEvac system, which emphasizes airflow, minimizes eyewear fogging while riding and ensures a clear view at all times. It also features a channel design that securely fixes eyewear to the front of the helmet. The gaps are set along the curvature of the helmet so the temples fit just right, providing a sense of unity with the helmet while also being firmly secured, giving you peace of mind in situations where you want to take off your sunglasses while riding.

Removable soft visor

The visor, similar to a cycling cap, can be used according to the day's weather, your mood, or your style—from cycling jerseys to casual wear.

Koroyd-equipped MTB Helmet – Session MIPS

Session MIPS

COLOR:Matte Spruce/Safari, Matte Cloud Gray
SIZE:M, L
WEIGHT:350g(size M)
PRICE:¥28,600 (tax included)

A highly versatile model designed for balance

The Session is an MTB helmet in the same grade as the Network. It is a highly versatile model designed with a good balance of protection and ventilation. The Koroyd is positioned only on the sides, where the risk is highest in a fall, to keep weight down, while large openings on the crown provide high ventilation performance.

Dispelling brain damage during a fall

To ensure high safety, it also adopts MIPS. By featuring a movable liner between the helmet and the wearer's head, it shifts slightly upon impact, dispersing and reducing the rotational forces that cause damage to the brain.

Detachable/adjustable visor

The visor, meant to protect your face from trail obstacles or mud kicked up by riders ahead, can be adjusted in three stages depending on the situation, and can also be removed when unnecessary.

Structure designed to hold eyewear

Like the Network, the Session is shaped to easily hold eyewear. It allows for the storage of not only sunglasses but also goggles.

In addition, SMITH OPTICS models that do not use Koroyd, such as the entry-level Persist and Engage, are scheduled to arrive. New colors for eyewear such as the Wildcat have also arrived alongside the helmets introduced today, so please check them out.

You can, of course, purchase through the web shop, but we know many of you want to try on a helmet before buying. If that's you, please make an appointment and come visit us. We’d be happy to talk to you about sizing and usage.

As we feel the warmth of spring, many more people will be riding bikes around town and heading out for longer trips on holidays. When you do, we recommend wearing a helmet—not just to protect yourself, but for the sake of everyone else around you as well.
