Parts that aren't done yet
The lights at Culture Club have gone out for now.
But the time that piled up in that place can't just be neatly tidied away.
Parts left at the back of the shelves.
Frames that were waiting for someone.
CCB original products born by slipping through the gaps between standards, like that slightly crazy, but oh-so-CC invention that turns a CHRIS KING hub into a fixed gear.
These aren't just leftover stock.
They're little embers that Culture Club gathered, fixed, tested and kept alive, laughing all the way, over about ten years.
They have something different from the beauty of brand-new things.
A little old,
a little quirky,
a little in need of explanation, and just a little bit of a hassle.
But that's exactly why you can love them.
Bikes are never made up only of right answers.
Trying to make something fit that doesn't, getting fired up about a standard nobody cares about anymore, trying to put something usable to use one more time.
Sometimes there's a strange kind of sparkle that only lives in those detours.
I think that's exactly the kind of place Culture Club was.
The sound of tools, someone digging through a box, staring at an old part and wondering, “What could this be used for?”
The answer doesn't come right away.
But the time spent thinking about it is already fun.
What we're putting out this time is the lingering scent of that Culture Club.
The few things that were left after it closed, we're sending out once more as Culture Club goods.
There are old parts.
There are frames.
And there are things we made as CCB that are oddly serious, oddly ridiculous, and oddly something to be proud of.
They're probably not for everyone.
But for someone, one of them might be the last piece they've been searching for all along.
That door has closed, but the story goes on just a little longer.
The last radio signal, coming from the shelves of Culture Club.
I just hope it reaches the people who can tune in.
