【NEW】RAL Cycling Wool Jersey

Hello everyone.
This is John from Circles Tokyo.

Before I knew it, mid-October had passed, and lately I've started to feel a bit of a chill.
At the same time, I’ve really started to miss my long sleeves.

As autumn began, the CHAMPION Reverse Weave ’25FW was released and has already become a popular item here in Tokyo, but RAL also has an exciting product release.

I’d like you to bear with me for a moment, as there’s an item I really want to introduce.

Before we dive into the main topic, please let me share a little bit of casual conversation.

Cycling jerseys used to be made entirely of wool.

Wool jerseys aren't always comfortable, as they become heavy when wet and lose their shape.

Even so, wool has a charm that no other material possesses.
In the era before synthetic fibers, wool was the only lightweight material that was breathable and quick-drying, even when sweating.
Cotton is a staple for undergarments, but it isn’t suitable for cycling because it absorbs sweat, becomes heavy when wet, and takes time to dry.

In that regard, wool doesn't stick to the skin when it absorbs sweat, and it dries naturally to maintain comfort. Furthermore, by using a knit construction, it can be made elastic, making it ideal as a cycling uniform.
For many years, countless athletes wore these jerseys through races and training rides.

(It looks incredibly cool to ride while smoking a cigarette...)

There was a certain warmth and classic flair to the sight of cyclists riding through the wind.

Lately, when I peek into vintage shops, I see cycling wear from that era lined up. The soft touch of the wool instantly brings those scenes of the past back to life.

And then, there is the newly released RAL Cycling Wool Jersey.
It feels like it’s time-slipping to connect the past and the present, and it gets my heart racing.
There’s a novelty within the nostalgia—it’s packed with that kind of excitement.

This time, it comes in two colors: green and brown.
Both feature attractive, retro color palettes, and I’m still having trouble deciding which one to choose.

The main fabric is merino wool.

When people hear "wool," many might associate it with being "itchy" or "heavy."
Honestly, I used to be a bit sensitive to wool myself, and I barely ever wore it.
However, thanks to the "non-itchy softness" and "smooth texture" that are characteristic of merino wool, I've completely overcome that aversion.
Now, cycling in this should feel wonderful!

Merino wool is perfect for scenarios involving heavy perspiration, like cycling.
Due to its structure that traps air within the fibers, it demonstrates excellent temperature regulation, keeping you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot.
Furthermore, it has superior moisture absorption and release, quickly wicking away sweat and moisture.
Your skin won't feel sticky, ensuring you remain dry and comfortable.

And, despite being a natural fiber, the lightness and elasticity that rival synthetic fibers are also part of merino's appeal.
It is a perfect match for cycling.

The "three-pocket configuration" is an iconic detail unique to road jerseys.

The size is just right for holding snacks, portable tools, or your smartphone.
It inherits the old-school style perfectly, a detail that classic enthusiasts will love.

A jersey for both racing and everyday life.
And, while carrying on those "sentiments" of the past, we've updated the once-tight silhouette into a relaxed, modern shape.
Maybe we got a little greedy there.

I also recommend wearing it open like a cardigan, draped over yourself.

I don't know yet if this cycling jersey is a new genre or a return to the roots.
But I am certain of one thing:
If you wear this, you can ride beyond time.
I am sure you will be able to feel that sensation too.
