This latest bike check features a Cielo By Chris King Road Racer—the very first one we’ve had the pleasure of building here at Circles.
We’ve had many opportunities to order other models like the Sportif or the previously available Sportif Racer, but this Road Racer is a completely different beast. While it’s still a steel bike, it utilizes custom-engineered oval tubing and a compact geometry that combines the natural vibration-damping properties of steel with the rigidity required for racing.
It’s truly a modern steel racer designed in the pursuit of pure speed.
The owner chose "Tartan" from the stock color options for this racer.
The frame features a 44mm head tube and a Press Fit 30 bottom bracket, ensuring that power is transferred efficiently without any loss.
The drivetrain and rolling stock are firmly anchored by a custom wheelset built with Chris King R45 hubs.
The owner, who already experienced the benefits of R45 hubs on their CX bike, chose a 20H front/24H rear setup for this build to keep the wheels lightweight.
There is no "ironclad rule" that you must use a full Chris King parts kit when building a Cielo. We are, of course, happy to suggest appropriate parts based on your budget. However, if you are considering it, we highly recommend using Chris King not just for the headset, but for the hubs and bottom bracket as well. (*We offer special OEM pricing when ordering Chris King parts along with a Cielo frameset, so please feel free to ask us about it.)
We believe these are excellent, high-quality components that you can really rely on for the long haul, thanks to their durability, ease of maintenance, and the fact that even the smallest replacement parts are available if the need ever arises. This is true not only for Chris King parts but also for the design philosophy of Cielo frames.
