Perhaps because it’s before payday, it’s been a slow week. It’s a great time to take your time with us, not only for help with flat tire repairs, but also for consultations on parts replacement and custom assembly. In the midst of this, the 2014 Kona models have arrived! Today, I’d like to introduce some of the Road/CX bikes.
Kona “Jake” size:49cm color:Matt Orange ¥128,100
First up is the classic CX bike, the “Jake.” Despite its aluminum frame, it comes equipped with rack mounts, making it a versatile machine that can be enjoyed for everything from daily use like commuting to school or work, to weekend long rides and CX races.
Kona “Rove” size:53cm color:Matt Raw/Blue Tint ¥173,250
The Rove made its debut last year. The 2014 model has been tuned to be a bit more road-oriented than last year’s. The frame, which clears up to 700x42c tires, is also compatible with racks and fenders. You can enjoy CX on it, but it’s perhaps more of a gravel-oriented bike. And since the complete bike comes with tubeless-compatible wheels, it seems like there are all sorts of ways to enjoy it!
By the way, the tires equipped on the two bikes mentioned above are the Freedom by WTB “Ryder,” which I personally recommend.
Freedom by WTB “Ryder” 700x32c/700x38c ¥3,360
These are slick tires designed for touring and city riding, but the tread pattern also performs well on rough roads and gravel.
They are available in 32c and 38c, and I also recommend them for bikes like the Surly Cross Check. Since the complete Cross Check comes with knobby tires, if you are riding one as is and feel that it’s a bit heavy to pedal, just switching to these tires can make your ride much more comfortable.
Kona “Sutra” size:49cm color:Matt Raw/Sand Tint ¥144,900
And finally, I’d like to introduce the Sutra. This is also a classic touring bike, but it has undergone a dramatic change. In addition to adopting a 44mm head tube for increased rigidity, it comes with front and rear racks from Blackburn that are simple yet reliable enough for serious tourers. It uses MTB components, making it easy to climb hills even when loaded with heavy gear. Of course, it also features mechanical disc brakes for reliable stopping power.
Poler Stuff “One Man Tent” ¥26,040
JANDD “Saddle Bag Pannier” ¥9,970
Loading it up with a tent, a change of clothes, and the like makes you want to head out on a trip like this. Of course, it also makes for an incredibly excellent commuter bike.
Kona is pushing matte colors this year, and they all have a cool finish.
Please come by the shop to see the real bikes in person! We are, of course, waiting for your inquiries as well. We’ll help you find the one that fits your needs!
