ICEBOX—no, that’s not a new Shimano groupset.
However, it is undoubtedly a groundbreaking product, and I had intended to give it a proper introduction. But, as those in the know would realize, it’s likely to sell out before I even have the chance to introduce it, so consider this a quick bulletin.

An Out-of-Place Artifact from Shimano’s Fishing Division
Within the businesses that Shimano handles, their fishing division stands shoulder-to-shoulder with their bicycle parts. Like the bike components, it is a global brand known for high quality, high performance, and a wealth of cutting-edge products, and the cooler boxes essential to fishing are no exception.
Until now, high insulation performance in cooler boxes meant thick walls, but a major feature of these is that they use vacuum insulation panels to achieve high insulation even with thin walls. In other words, they are built like a large vacuum flask, realizing a significant increase in capacity compared to others of the same size.

Beyond that, they are very well-made in the details, such as the double-opening lid, detachable handles, drain plug, and a sturdiness that allows you to sit on them, but I will report on those aspects later on.
Different colors for different grades—just like bike components…
For better or worse, the fishing division’s products are traditionally rugged and practical. There was hardly any variation in color, but this ICEBOX series is ambitious in its attempt to bring that practicality out of the fishing world and into everyday life.
Also, the fact that the colors differ by grade is a nice touch, though it’s a source of trouble for those trying to choose.
In what situations does it shine!?
It goes without saying that it’s perfect for fishing, as well as camping and the outdoors, which are its main visual themes. You could call it a necessity for when you pack up food and drinks to head out.
By the way, the reason I bought one was to "buy souvenirs."
When I go to rides, events, or business trips by car, if I buy beer, sake, or sweets, I want to find a way to keep them fresh until I get home. That’s why I keep one in my car (buying ice at a convenience store).
The weather is getting cooler, but the interior of a car stays hot year-round, and the need for cold drinks remains the same. If you are looking for a cooler box, I highly recommend checking these out.
