We recently delivered a Cielo Sportif Racer to our customer.
While two or three months can feel like a blink of an eye once it has passed, the wait while anticipating the bike can feel like an eternity. Mr. O, thank you so much for your patience. His smile really tells the story of his happiness, and it makes us feel truly delighted as well. Let’s go out for a ride together sometime soon.
For this build, we received an order intended for serious long-ride excursions on weekends, so we chose the Sportif Racer. We assembled it as a partner that can tackle all sorts of terrain—both climbs and descents—and one that can dive into gravel paths without hesitation. It’s a simple build, but it captures that strong determination of the Cielo and Chris King teams to make as much as they possibly can in-house.
For the wheels, we combined Chris King R45 hubs with DT RR440 rims. Naturally, we used an asymmetric rim for the rear to enhance the precision of the wheel. For tires, we went with the Panaracer Race Type D. We started with 23c, but he will likely run 25c or even 28c in the future to tackle some gravel.
The seat is a WTB Silverado. Among the WTB lineup, this model fits road riding particularly well. It has a slim, clean profile, yet it’s a saddle that keeps you comfortable even on long rides.

And now, I have an announcement to share with everyone regarding Cielo.
Until now, the classic series lineup consisted of two models, the “Sportif Classic” and the “Sportif Racer,” but with the arrival of the “Road Racer,” these two previous models will be merged into a newly reborn, simple “Sportif.”
Cielo By Chris King
“Sportif”
235,000 JPY (excl. tax)
・Frame and fork set
・Compatible only with medium-reach (57mm) brake calipers
・Tire clearance: 32mm (without fenders) / 28mm (with fenders)
・Color-matched fenders available as an option for 37,000 JPY (excl. tax)
Keeping the original Sportif concept from Cielo intact, the new rear dropouts with eyelets are, of course, original parts made in-house just as they have always been. The brake arches accommodate medium-reach calipers, making it possible to install fenders or take the bike out on gravel, enabling riding in a wide variety of situations.
As for the “Sportif Classic” and “Sportif Racer,” they can still be produced as long as our stock of rear drop ends lasts, so please feel free to inquire. However, please understand and be aware that depending on the timing of your order, Chris King may no longer be able to manufacture them.
