For those of you still dragging your holiday spirit around on this first day back from a long break, let’s try to shake it off with some enthusiasm! Today, we’re sharing a bike that recently headed out from Circles Tailored.

The return of the "Black Cat," BlackCat Bicycles.

Labeled a "Smooth Road" bike, in these times when disc brakes are becoming the mainstream, and in a genre of road bikes flooded with various standards for thru-axles and bottom brackets, this build feels like a defiant, super-basic style that essentially says, "At the end of the day, this is what it’s all about!"

While you might hear the phrase "Save The Rim Brake" floating around, no matter how much time passes, they will surely never disappear. In fact, this bike is overflowing with the spirit that says: go out and enjoy a 100-150km ride, and if the pavement gets a little rough or you find yourself wandering onto a gravel path, it doesn’t even matter!

In fact, even with short-reach brakes, it still clears 28c tires.

Simple is best.

That is exactly what this bike strives for. And it’s a trouble—the best kind—that the hand-painting by the builder, Todd himself, also perfectly captures the excitement that calls out to anyone who wants to ride a Black Cat.

I’m always blown away by the new bikes he builds. It confirms that Black Cat truly is one of a kind.

From the frame construction to the original dropouts and even the finishing paint job, bikes made by Todd are essentially works of art.

At the same time, they are ultimate fun tools that seem to cast a spell on you the moment you start riding.
