As for this frame that just arrived the other day, I was actually the one who received it from the courier and opened the box first. It was just a matter of timing, though.
Excited to see the new paint color, I took the frame out and… it was light. Unusually light.
When I tapped the down tube with my finger, it made a light, metallic ringing sound. The pipes are so thin it's almost worrying! That’s right—this frame uses ultra-thin tubing to achieve its low weight, and it comes with a 100kg (220lbs) weight limit.

Classic ≠ Silver
With its 1″ threaded headset, cantilever brakes, horizontal top tube, and more, the Lightning Bolt is designed as an homage to classic standards.
Sure, you could build it up with silver parts to create a classic, old-school vibe, but does that mean you can’t achieve that same atmosphere without them?
We assembled this build with the goal of creating a classic feel while utilizing the black components that are so common today—though, of course, we used silver parts in key areas to pull it all together.
The New Old School – Microshift ADVENT X
Beyond the color scheme, the MICROSHIFT ADVENT X series plays a huge role in the overall vibe.
At a time when 11-speed, 12-speed, and electronic shifting dominate the market, Microshift introduced these 8, 9, and 10-speed components.
For this Lightning Bolt, we went with the 1x10-speed ADVENT X. It features a massive 48T low gear that rivals mountain bike components, and a clutch mechanism to prevent chain drop. Plus, the dual-control levers—which integrate shifting and braking—feature those good old-fashioned "antennae" cables.
While those protruding cables might seem like they'd get in the way, they actually make shifting much smoother and less stressful. And to make sure it’s never boring, we had some fun with the cable housing colors.
Lightweight and lively.
For tires, we chose ULTRA DYNAMICO, which always seems to pair perfectly with CRUST.
These Cava Race tires are in the 650bx47.99 size. They offer plenty of air volume but are still very fast-rolling, making them perfect for touring.
Colored tires can sometimes be tricky to coordinate, but these are a perfect match for the Lightning Bolt’s Galaxy Black frame. The contrast between the tire and the frame color makes each one pop.
