Following up on the Honjo Factory Tour we announced the other day, here is the second invitation for a ride event as part of the Circles Tokyo 1st Anniversary Event, taking place on March 1st!
I have organized a ride for this anniversary event where we can all experience the appeal of cycling together! This is a joint project with Kako-shi, the organizer of #ArakawaOutback, which is already a familiar favorite at Bikelore ride events!
Entitled "Tokyo Bay Outback"!
This ride was meticulously planned to see if we could create something interesting centered around the Tokyo Bay waterfront, near Circles Tokyo’s location in Minato Ward, Tokyo.
Below is a comment from Kako-shi.
For the “Tokyo Bay Outback,” we are planning an approximately 80km ride that will take place, quite literally, around the Tokyo Bay waterfront and beyond, connecting as many backroads as possible.
I’ve prepared a few images. These were taken of the road surfaces during a test ride, and they were far too diverse to simply be called "paved roads" (though some sections aren't paved at all…).
In the past few years, tires for our hobby bikes have generally become wider, making it easy to obtain comfort that could even be called excessive for cycling.
Unlike seeking the limit of tire clearance for off-road activities, I feel that shifting that balance significantly toward agility is the key to the fun of cycling in "Tokyo Bay."
During the test ride, Yoshimoto-san from Circles Tokyo remarked, "This route might be super fun if you were on [a certain type of bike]." (He talks about bikes constantly. Though so do I.)
I feel that we’ve created content that is enjoyable just for the sake of riding, but I also hope those planning to participate will enjoy it while imagining what that content might be like.
As Kako-shi commented, it is primarily a flat, paved route, but we will be bringing you a variety of ways to connect the paths, full of our signature style.
You will be overwhelmed by the scale of the port infrastructure that supports the megacity of Tokyo, only to suddenly find yourself lost in the old town atmosphere.
"ArakawaOutback is ultimately just a concept."
Kako-shi says this all the time, and this ride route is exactly that concept expressed with Tokyo Bay as the stage.
Let’s ride together! We are planning for a limit of 10 participants. If you would like to join, please register via this entry form!
Also, for this ride, we are supported by POC—a brand I personally rely on for their overwhelming lightness and breathability, and which provides high-quality products that hold patents for material combinations and structures to achieve maximum protection and peak performance. We will have a limited number of helmets available to rent for those who would like one.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the breathability and lightweight feel during an actual ride, so please give them a try!
