As the internet becomes widespread and any information can be obtained instantly, the experiences and information that are not easily accessible have become increasingly valuable as a counterpoint.
The fact that “raves,” secret music events held in places like the mountains without wide public notice, are suddenly gaining popularity seems to tell this story. Managing to get the information through slight clues like personal connections and actually reaching the location is, after all, a special experience.
SLOW BURNIN’ 2023, held as a pre-event (or rather, a counter-event) for CMWC, was an event where such rave culture and bicycle racing were mixed. While it wasn’t an incredibly secretive event, the high hurdles for participation were expected for a mysterious event held deep in the mountains of Izu, where there is no cell phone reception.
At SLOW BURNIN’, various things happened, including things that can be told and things that can’t, but I’d like you to piece together those fragments of individual records scattered on social media, or ask someone who was actually there. Well, in any case, it was a supreme event. Here, I’ll upload photos focusing on the "people" who were there. That alone should tell you how unique this bicycle event was.
Even those who look intimidating to people with an aversion to tattoos were all nice guys once you actually talked to them. There were really all sorts of people, from messengers who came from abroad to participate in CMWC, to people at the forefront of various fields of music and art, and even a local girl who came alone because she heard a favorite artist—whose work she didn't know well—was performing.
It seems the next SLOW BURNIN’ will be held in Mexico next autumn. A true test of travel ability!
This weekend, the main CMWC Yokohama event will be held at Nissan Stadium (not Yokohama Stadium). When it comes to bikes and events, you really have to ride them and go to them to get the most out of them. We’ll also have a Circles booth at CMWC. Let’s meet there!
