Ballad of Their Footsteps

Born, born, what was born?

The other day, another female college student bought a bicycle, and we went on a delivery ride together. Otherwise known as Exciting Accompanied Ride 2! → (Exciting Accompanied Ride 1)

She’d already been helping out with Aliba events, but eventually, she announced, "I want a bike, too." Of course, while satisfying the fashion-conscious desire to have a "cute bike," we also make sure to finish it stylishly as a practical tool that can be fully utilized for daily life and recreation. She chose the KONA TONK. It’s an impeccable choice for a base bike.

And then, with bright eyes, she said, "I want to repaint the color of my bike!"
Of course, even if it's a new bike—or rather, precisely because it's a new bike—you can have it repainted by Kyutai Paint to get a one-of-a-kind model all your own.

It does take a little time, of course, but that’s part of the fun.
When delivering the bike, we have the customer take a test ride on the road in front of the shop, and we thoroughly teach them the basics, from operating instructions and safety precautions to simple maintenance.

This isn't a grandpa watching his grandchild's bike debut, but rather Tomoyan teaching her how to pump up the tires.

And naturally, she said, "Once it's built, I want to ride it home!"
I understand the feeling, but home is about 40km away, right?
So, we decided to ride together.

She’s not the type who’s particularly into sports, but she got used to the drop handlebars—which she was a bit confused by at first—right away and was riding normally. Maybe "Oh no, it’s too scary" is just an urban legend. Your butt will hurt if you ride for a long time, but that gets much better once you learn how to shift your weight.

Whether it's before you're old enough to know better, during your college years, or after retirement, the time it takes for someone to meet their favorite bicycle varies. You never know when that moment will arrive, but like the lyrics to "Yatsura no Ashioto Ballad," tracing the time from the birth of the universe in the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago until "they" arrive—much like a grand ballad that intensely evokes that encounter's impact—I hope that her world (people, things, history, and experiences) will expand drastically before and after meeting her bike. Just as it did for me once.

By the way, it was composed by Monsieur (Kamayatsu). This might not mean much to a college student, but in any case, welcome to a new world. Ride safe & have fun!
