[No. 8] First Aid Course for Body and Bicycle

Hello everyone! It’s Daisaku.

Before we knew it, this has become our 8th First Aid Workshop. Since starting last September, we’ve covered basic emergency first aid for injuries, bleeding, and fractures at each session, as well as common and troublesome bicycle issues that occur during rides, such as derailleur damage or snapped chains.

This information is essential knowledge and technique for those of us who enjoy the outdoors. However, there have been almost no opportunities to learn it until now, meaning you—and even I, the instructor—have had to absorb information on our own through the internet, magazines, or word of mouth.

While "researching and learning on your own" is very important, you can sometimes end up picking up incorrect information along the way.

During our workshops, I often hear comments like, "Really!?" or "I never knew that!"

Learning about fun things is great, but having the right knowledge and techniques is essential to enjoying yourself safely.

The Last Workshop of the Year is the "Advanced Edition"!!!

We’ve spent the past year holding Beginner and Intermediate sessions, and finally, the last workshop of this year is the "Advanced Edition." (I wrote that casually, but this is indeed the final workshop of the year. By the way, we are currently creating an annual curriculum for next year and beyond!! Look forward to it!!)

But please, don't be intimidated...!!

Even though it’s the Advanced Edition, I’m not going to bury you in technical jargon or overly complex techniques. Haha.

If anything, this session is designed to build on what we’ve learned so far and provide more practical, hands-on lectures.

Of course, if you haven't taken the beginner or intermediate courses but still want to join, you are more than welcome!

December 20th (Sat) / December 21st (Sun)

  • Emergency Training: Learn specific precautions when calling for an ambulance or doctor helicopter, and how to accurately convey the situation.
  • Practical Demonstration: Practice how to transport an injured person and how to communicate information over the phone.
  • Bicycle Troubleshooting: Based on scenarios where trouble actually occurs, we will think about where the problem lies and suggest solutions.

"Knowledge and Experience," an investment that leaves no physical trace

Unlike buying parts or a new bike, "buying knowledge and experience" doesn't leave you with a physical object in your hands. Because of that, some people might feel there’s a bit of a hurdle to participating.

However, we believe that for "play," having the "knowledge and experience" to enjoy it safely is essential. We also believe that by teaching what you've learned to your friends and putting it into practice, you can gain something far more important than buying material goods.

I hope you will take the knowledge and techniques gained in this workshop and use them for the benefit of your friends, or even try giving a lecture yourself. You can put what you've learned to use as early as tomorrow.

The "circle" that grows from doing this will surely lead to opportunities for us all to ride together or do even more fun things in the future.
