[First Aid Workshop for Body and Bicycle] This time, we're holding an open-air class!

Hello! This is Daisaku.

I'm writing here after a long time because we'll be holding our regular first aid workshop in June, and I'd love for all of you to participate.

Unlike previous sessions, this time we'll be combining the workshop with a ride, hosting it in a more practical outdoor setting!

Let's wipe away those lingering worries!

It's great to buy a bike and enjoy riding it, but there's always that small nagging anxiety in the back of your mind: "What if I get a flat tire?" "I hope my chain doesn't drop." "I'd hate for something to happen." "What if I fall and get hurt here!"

It’s frustrating to have those worries, but they are hard to resolve, and it's not always clear who to ask. I think this is a common issue, whether you’re new to cycling or experienced.

Personally, I’ve experienced countless times how these kinds of troubles never seem to happen when you're fully prepared, but instead strike at the most unexpected moments—like, "Wait, right now!?"

In particular, I've encountered various accidents during the OMM Bike, an event I've participated in several times.

  • Broken chain
  • Flat tire
  • Brakes stopped working entirely
  • Bent derailleur
  • Broken lever
  • Wobbly wheel

And so on.

Trouble tends to happen in situations that are different from the norm, such as the atmosphere of an event or riding in terrain you don't usually visit. When I talk to other staff members, we all agree: "Yeah, that's exactly when these unexpected troubles happen."

Despairing over trouble with such a beautiful view behind you... that's something we want to avoid!!

I've often seen people get panicked, thinking, "But it was fine before! Why today!?"

It's a shame to let a fun time turn into a bitter memory just because you don't know what to do and end up panicking, or because the fun atmosphere turns stone-cold silent.

If you learn how to handle troubles calmly and accurately—or in some cases, just laugh them off—you might find that you can turn them into good memories later: "Remember that time we had that happen?" If we can change the outcome, shouldn't we?

This time, for those of you planning to enjoy events like the OMM Bike or go touring this summer, I'll be conducting a more practical workshop outdoors, combined with a mini-ride! Of course, those who feel similar anxieties during daily use or regular rides are also very welcome.

By the way, we also plan to touch on map reading, which will be useful for the OMM Bike held the month after next!

First Aid for the Body

Learn knowledge that is useful in nature!
Our instructor for physical first aid will be super outdoorsman Yoshinori Takagi, who is both a nurse and a Vivobarefoot Japan trainer.

Workshop Content

  • Treating and caring for wounds
  • Infection control
  • How to use a triangular bandage for fractures
  • Transportation methods

We will dive deep into practical content, drawing on the abundant real-life examples from outdoor scenes that were highly praised in past workshops. We'll cover basic knowledge about injuries and infectious diseases, the priority of actions during outdoor emergencies, and even the items that are useful in a pinch.

You might even hear some eye-opening ideas like, "Wait, this can also be used for first aid!?" You're sure to gain the skills to handle various situations that can occur in the wild!

First Aid for the Bicycle

The bicycle first aid section will be taught by me, Daisaku, who has 10 years of cycling experience and works at CULTURE CLUB, a sister store to Circles that handles a wide range of products from new to used bikes and parts.

Workshop Content

  • Understanding bicycle structure
  • Common problems (flats, etc.)
  • How to deal with a broken chain
  • How to deal with brakes that have stopped working

Based on my 10 years of riding experience and the mechanical troubles I've faced, we will learn practically how to deal with issues like flat tires and broken chains—things that are inevitable when cycling—as well as how to prepare in advance, all while incorporating a Q&A session. Let's gain troubleshooting skills by actually working with our hands outdoors!

By the way, in June, we are also planning to hold workshops not just in Nagoya, but at Circles Tokyo as well. (Scheduled for 6/14, 15)

We will make an announcement about that at a later date, so if you're far away and can't make it to Nagoya, please look forward to it at Circles Tokyo.

Let's learn first aid from both the bicycle and human perspectives so we can enjoy cycling freely and with peace of mind, no matter where we are.

We look forward to seeing you there!!
