What is the "Grease Monkey Bike School"?

As the title suggests, this "Grease Monkey Bike School" is a continuation of the classes we used to hold at our (now closed) Culture Club.
We provide support so that more people can not only ride bikes, but also use them for fun, go on long trips, learn to get their hands dirty with maintenance, and understand the mechanics—empowering them to take initiative. Beyond that lies a richer life where you can enjoy mixing various things and experiences together.
But we know the feeling. Even if you want to reach that point, there is always an underlying anxiety: "What if my bike breaks down?"
We exist to remove that anxiety and serve as a pathway for you to take that bold first step into your next stage.
As cyclists ourselves, we love bikes and the people who ride them. We want to share the knowledge and techniques we’ve gained through experience and help you deepen your understanding of your bicycle.
That is the spirit behind this school.

An Inevitable "Rite of Passage"
What is the most common trouble you encounter while cycling?
I’m sure the first thing that came to mind was a "flat tire."
In the "Mamachari Pit" at the corner of Circles, which is closest to our daily operations, we fix around 10—and sometimes close to 20—flats a day.

I’ve even had a few flats during recent rides; it is the most familiar mechanical issue for any cyclist.
And it is a trial that everyone who starts cycling will inevitably face.
If you're a cyclist, you've got to know how to fix a flat!
That might sound like a pretty bold subtitle, but don’t panic—you don’t have to know how to do it perfectly right away! Nobody is an expert from day one.
But knowing that a flat is a rite of passage that everyone goes through, doesn't it feel a bit wrong to go out without any preparation?

If you can learn about it beforehand, take precautions, and deal with it calmly when the time comes, your fun ride can continue just as planned.
Besides, it’s not actually that serious of a problem. If it happens, you just handle it quickly and it turns into a funny story—think of it as a bonus event that pops up once in a while. (Though it’s not really a bonus in terms of the damage, haha.)
That’s how minor of a problem a flat tire is.

We are holding a flat-fix workshop on 6/14 (Sun)!
【Grease Monkey Bike School】

In this school, we will teach you how to fix a flat, as well as the structure of your tires and rims. Once you understand why a flat happens, we will carefully walk you through the repair process and how to change an inner tube.

With the coming season, there are plenty of rides to the river and events like OMM! To fully enjoy your cycling, let’s start by gaining these essential skills and knowledge.
