Early Birds opens in the morning with a sense of freshness and crisp, dignified air. I’ve always felt it would be nice to have a "good shop" in this neighborhood that’s open from the morning. While continuing to operate such a morning spot, I started wanting to see what a "good shop" looked like at night. That’s how we started Hedgehog Diner.
About two years ago, we started this on a whim, thinking, "If we're going to be open at night anyway, why not rename the place Hedgehog and turn it into a diner?"
That was the year Star Wars Episode VII was released, and everyone around me was buzzing about it. I had never actually seen it, so I started our Friday night operations by watching Star Wars. It finally resonated with me, someone who never had a connection to the series, crossing the galaxy to make me realize it was a "love story." Watching Rogue One got me pumped up, too, and I can't wait for this year’s release.
I want to do even more in 2017. 2016 was a year of "staying up late," as I found myself going out for drinks with friends and colleagues much more often.
I visited various lively spots where you can enjoy great drinks, and I felt how wonderful and fun they were. The chaotic atmosphere of a tavern, the drinks shared while venting about work, the human touch of people talking passionately about life, and even the sight of someone drinking too much and passing out—all of it is somehow interesting.
I want to create that kind of space myself and take on the challenge. I believe that there is a nighttime style for an establishment that shares bicycle culture like Circles, and shares food culture with the keyword of breakfast like Early Birds. Although the vision isn't fully concrete yet, I believe that the future lies in challenging ourselves, running into walls, and challenging ourselves again. In 2017, Hedgehog Diner will create a lively scene in Chiyoda’s nights, so I hope you’ll join us.
We'll start slowly from around 5:00 PM on Friday, February 3rd.
The keywords for our first day are "Gyoza" and "Meat." We might not be able to offer a menu that's completely satisfying yet, but we will gradually take on challenges with items you can't eat at Early Birds.
On the 17th, we’ll be hosting our night orienteering event, CHILL!!. This is our regular event held on the third Friday of every month. The future of bicycle culture is currently in progress, so don't miss it. We’ll continue proposing exciting scenes for young people and new ways to have fun in this city of bicycles.
On the 24th, Zoumeshiya, an unstoppable force coming all the way from Nishio, will be hosting a pop-up. It’s been a year and a half since their last visit. The owner is full of energy for this one, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Blow away the February cold and come meet us at Hedgehog every Friday!!!!!
