What is DRILL?

The word "DRILL" has many layers of meaning.

In Japanese, "drill" (like in a workbook) carries the connotation of training, repetitive practice, and exercises—repeatedly preparing yourself toward a specific goal. Naturally, it also brings to mind the tool used for drilling holes.

DRILL is an event designed to help you learn and practice truly essential and important skills in a fun, playful way.

Disasters occur somewhere in the world almost every day, and nobody knows when or in what situation they might strike. Even knowing this, it can be a hassle to prepare. We hope that by holding "DRILL" annually, we can create a time for you to naturally rethink your disaster preparedness for the coming year while having a stylish, fun time with family and friends. Ultimately, we hope this provides as many people as possible with knowledge that could prove vital in an emergency.

Among the many events out there, this is a fresh and novel initiative designed to break through the status quo—like a drill.

The main theme of this event is "learning about disaster prevention and the local community."

We’re bringing cargo bikes that are useful in disasters!

In the event of a disaster, transport networks are paralyzed, making it difficult to get around by car. Moving a lot of supplies on foot is exhausting work. This is where bicycles become essential. A cargo bike with a large storage capacity can handle all sorts of situations. We’ll be bringing cargo bikes, primarily OMNIUM models, so you can hop on and try them out, and we’ll demonstrate how to pack them effectively.

Bicycles are not just for daily commuting; they are a vital means of transportation during a disaster. Our staff will also be bringing a few of their own bikes as demo units, so please come by and take them for a spin!

Disaster prevention workshop with Daisy Messenger

With the help of DAISY MESSENGER, we’ll also be holding a bicycle-based disaster prevention workshop at the venue.

In this workshop, you can experience using a bike equipped with a BURLEY trailer—known for their cycling trailers—to see how much emergency supply material you can transport by bike alone, and you can even try pulling a child trailer.

You’ll get to feel how a bike handles when pulling over 10kg of supplies or a child, and see for yourself just how well-engineered the BURLEY trailers are. It’s also a great opportunity to compare their handling with the cargo bikes we’ll have on hand.

We’ll also be selling disaster gear and PFM cookies at our booth

We’ll also have a selection of useful disaster preparedness gear that we’ve personally chosen. You’d be surprised how useful some of these things are!

And, of course, we’re bringing cookies from our friends at PINE FIELDS MARKET! They are absolutely delicious!
Keep in mind that quantities are limited, so it will be first-come, first-served…
We apologize in advance if we sell out!

We’re also offering quick tune-ups for those arriving by bike!

Even if you own a bike, it’s a major problem if it doesn't work when you need it most.

If you arrive at the event by bike, feel free to ask us for a quick safety check! (*Please note that because our tools are limited, we can only perform a minimal check of key areas.)

If you require more complex repairs, our sister shop, Culture Club, is located near the venue and we can direct you there!

The venue, Nakagawa Canal Green Space, is very easy to get to—only about a 15-minute bike ride from Circles. We look forward to seeing everyone there this weekend!
