To get straight to the point, this coming Saturday, November 4th, we will be setting up a booth at an event called DRILL!
DRILL is a brand-new type of event held at Nakagawa Canal Green Park, bringing together a wonderful lineup of vendors. It's essentially a new form of disaster prevention training where, while enjoying a day of great food, shopping, and workshops, you’ll find yourself naturally equipped with knowledge and preparedness for emergencies by the time you head home.
DRILL
"DRILL"—this familiar word carries many meanings. Like the workbooks we used as children, "drills" imply training, repetition, and practice—the act of repeatedly working toward a goal or purpose.
Alternatively, the first image that comes to mind might be the power tool.
This event is all about learning and practicing truly important, necessary life skills through play. No one knows when or in what situation a disaster—which occurs somewhere in the world almost every day—might strike us. And even if we know that, it’s easy to feel that preparing for it is a hassle.
We hope that by holding "DRILL" annually, we can create a space where you can enjoy a fun, stylish day with family and friends while naturally revisiting your disaster prevention measures for the year ahead. We hope this creates an opportunity for as many people as possible to learn knowledge that could prove useful in an emergency.
Among the many events out there, this is a fresh and novel initiative that aims to break through the surface like a drill.
As he mentions from his own experience during the chaos in the city center following the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake, the convenience of a bicycle becomes incredibly reassuring during a disaster. Please take a moment to give it a read.
We’re bringing cargo bikes that are useful in a disaster!
Whether you're trying to get home from miles away or need to transport supplies, cargo bikes can be incredibly useful in various situations. That’s right—bicycles can be our vital means of transport when disaster strikes.
At this event, we'll be bringing a few cargo bikes (bicycles with large storage capacity for hauling goods) so you can see them in action. Test rides are definitely welcome!
We're also bringing along a selection of goods curated by the Circles staff that could be useful in an emergency. It turns out that some outdoor gear is surprisingly handy for disaster preparedness, too. (Well, that makes sense!)
We'll do safety checks, too!
It would be terrible if your bike didn't work when you needed it most in an emergency. For those riding to the event, we’ll be performing basic safety checks, so please don't hesitate to ask! Take this opportunity to get your bike ready for disaster preparedness.
※Please note that since our tools on-site are limited, we can only perform minimal checks. We appreciate your understanding.🙏 For more complex repairs, our sister shop Culture Club is located nearby, and we’d be happy to direct you there!
We’re doing a ride, too!!
This time, we’re planning a ride from the Nakagawa Canal Green Park, following the river down to the sea while checking out nearby evacuation centers along the way! Let's grab some takeout food from the event and enjoy it while gazing at the ocean! Details are as follows!
Let's go see the end of the Nakagawa Canal.
Date: Saturday, November 4th (Cancelled in case of rain)
How to participate: No sign-up required! Just show up at the meeting point! What to bring: Bicycle, helmet, clothing suitable for cycling, water, and snacks (let's pick some up at the event!)
If you have any questions, feel free to DM Asai! (hey_off)
