"Mori, Michi, Ichiba" is one of the top festivals for drawing crowds, not just in the Tokai region, but in all of Japan. It has been announced that it will be held again this year from Friday, May 27th to Sunday, May 29th. So, of course, we are doing it again: BIKE to Morimichi & Cycle Cloak!

The essence of Morimichi lies in its market
While the artist lineup for the music festival is always attractive, what truly defines this festival is the market—true to its name.
The Morimichi market brings together hundreds of small but passionate and discerning shops, food vendors, and makers from all over Japan. It seems it’s not easy to become a vendor, and since they want to see things improve every year, the turnover of shops is quite low.
"Sneaks," the joint venture between Ariba and Rader, also treats this as their big stage and gives it their all every year. (Though we took last year off…)

Like the Rakuichi-Rakuza of the Middle Ages
For goods to be bought, sold, or exchanged, their ownership must first be detached from the producer or owner, rendering them unclaimed so they can move on to the next person. To facilitate this transition, a free space immune to anyone's control is required, and markets served that role. For instance, markets were often held at the foot of bridges between territories, by the seaside, or in places where rainbows appeared. These spots became hubs for goods, people, and information, allowing performing arts and customs to thrive.
With a mind influenced by Yoshihiko Amino’s "Muen, Kugai, Raku," I am secretly moved by how "Mori, Michi, Ichiba"—a festival of performing arts held by the seaside—feels like witnessing a free market of the Middle Ages, and I look forward to its vitality and freedom every year.

Let's ride a bike to the festival
Events that attract many people by bicycle—and not just festivals—are good events. I believe it’s not entirely wrong to say that’s because they are loved by the locals within cycling distance. The number of people arriving by bike at Morimichi grows every year, and we might soon need to expand the cycle cloak area.
The big advantages include avoiding crowded trains and buses, or skipping high parking fees by staying at accommodation or parking a car a bit further away. Even just riding those last few kilometers to the venue offers a level of comfort that is well worth it.
Congestion on public transport and a lack of parking are perennial issues, and the Morimichi management team hopes to see more people arriving by bicycle. Especially now, with the challenges of COVID-19.
Of course, long rides from the Nagoya area are also welcome! You’ll want to arrive with an appetite to enjoy the carefully selected, delicious food. We are also planning a ride tour.

Bicycle-exclusive entry tickets and bicycle camping sites
At Circles, we will be selling bicycle-exclusive entry and camping tickets again this year. The prices are the same as the official ones, but you can enter smoothly via the bicycle-only entrance and choose from smaller camping plots designed for bikepacking, so please take advantage of them if you are arriving by bike.

Other details and updates will be posted on the BIKE to Mori, Michi, Ichiba special page, so be sure to check it out!
