【Symposium on the Development of Nagoya's Bicycle Culture】

The main Great Nagoya Bicycle Lifestyle Exhibition will be held around the end of November at the Nagoya TV Tower. We are coordinating this with a social experiment aimed at the expansion of Hisaya Odori Park. The experiment will involve restricting traffic lanes on both sides of the park and the city roads within the park for two weeks to measure the effects on vibrancy and traffic volume through various events.
As an NPO, Chariken is considering implementing programs on a wide range of themes in the closed lanes, including bicycle traffic safety, bicycle parking systems, bicycle commuting, and bicycle sports.

To seize this opportunity for the development of Nagoya's bicycle culture, we are holding this symposium as a space for information sharing and exchanging opinions with the general public of bicycle enthusiasts. We have invited Shinya Kato, who is in charge of the Nagoya TV Tower Urban Development Department and formerly the president of "Dai Nagoya Daigaku" (Great Nagoya University), to share his thoughts on the future of the TV Tower and Hisaya Odori Park, and we hope to receive feedback from participants regarding urban development. We want this to be a casual event where you can enjoy drinks and food, so please feel free to join us.

[Saturday, July 19 Symposium Schedule]
19:30 Opening remarks by NPO Chariken – "FY2014 Project Plan and Objectives"
19:45 About the new Daisy Messenger project: "Bicycle Emergency Service"
20:00 About the Hisaya Odori Park redevelopment plan and social experiment
20:15 Panel discussion on social experiments and Nagoya's bicycle culture
20:40 Q&A and networking
21:00 Closing

We hope this event will serve as an opportunity to build momentum for Nagoya's bicycle culture ahead of the main exhibition in November. We look forward to seeing you there.

So, we hope to see you all next weekend!
