Ever since Jeremy Sycip and Jay Sycip (now at Chris King/Cielo) were still running SyCip Bikes together as brothers, they have offered a commuter bike called the Java Boy (and, for the record, they also made a women's version, the Java Girl). The handlebars fitted to that bike are known as the Java Boy Bar, which were hand-bent one by one by the brothers themselves back in the day.
The distinctive curve, with a sharp bend at the grip section, means the bars fit curiously well in your hands regardless of whether they are mounted facing up or down.
These Java Boy Bars, now produced in collaboration with Nitto under the new name "JB Bar," continue to capture the hearts of daily riders today with their unique shape despite being mass-produced. The JB Bar has now been updated to a more compact form that stays closer to the original design.
[SyCip] JB Bar ¥6,500 (excl. tax)
If you cut the grip section along the printed line, it becomes exactly the same shape as the original Java Boy Bar, allowing you to use it facing either up or down to suit your preference. It is a handlebar with a unique shape that fits perfectly on cruisers and commuters alike. As with the original, the material is strong yet lightweight chromoly, and each one is crafted individually at the Nitto factory in Japan.
It looks like several builders, including Sycip, have already started preparations for NAHBS, as seen on social media.
We certainly have plenty to look forward to!
