It was about half a year ago that I returned to road pedals—Speedplay, specifically—after my focus shifted to gravel riding and I had been using mountain bike pedals, Crankbrothers Eggbeaters, on my road bike as well.
The reason was simple: I just wanted to wear the Quoc Night. For the past two or three years, I’ve mostly worn Quoc Tourers whenever I needed clipless shoes, and honestly, I didn't even feel like wearing anything else. However, another reason for the switch was that production of the Tourer had ended, and the pair I was using was nearing the end of its life.
I figured if I could experience the comfort of leather shoes—which the Tourer taught me about—in a road shoe, it was worth a shot. I also liked the sharp look of them, and I wanted to once again enjoy that sense of unity between road shoes and pedals that I had almost forgotten.
Over the past six months, whether on-road or gravel, the Night has been my go-to shoe for everything except trail rides. Of course, the power transfer and sense of unity with the pedal are completely different from mountain bike shoes. Furthermore, the Night's carbon-composite sole isn't designed for the thinness and stiffness required to win races, but rather for the moderate rigidity needed for comfortable long rides. Combined with the suppleness of the natural leather and microfiber used in the upper, the Night has become indispensable for my rides, which are primarily focused on heading into the mountains in search of beautiful scenery.
Since dedicated shoelaces have now been released for the Night, I decided to swap mine out right away.

Just changing the laces significantly changes the overall impression, making them look much more vibrant than before. It’s great to enjoy the way the leather ages, but a bold change of pace every now and then is nice too. They come in three colors and are available both individually and as a set.

By the way, these laces can be used not just with the Night, but with other shoes as well. They pair perfectly with the Quoc Urbanite Classic Mid. (Because the mid-cut provides a good length, they might be a bit long on low-cut models.)

I'm also happy to report that replacement heel pads are now available.

It’ll be a little while before I need to replace the heels on my Nights, but knowing these repair parts are available gives me great peace of mind for a long-term relationship with these shoes. I look forward to taking good care of them and using them for a long time to come.
By the way, we still have stock of the fan-favorite Tourer in limited colors and sizes.
If you’ve been looking for them, interested in them, or have been wanting a pair, definitely check them out!
The size 42 in TAN is what I’m aiming for, but since there are multiple pairs, please don’t feel like you need to hold back.
