The new Giant models Jus introduced the other day.
From the DEFY, which now features a disc brake lineup, to everything else, they are all very intriguing.
Amidst all that, with the full-scale domestic CX season just around the corner, we have already received the new model. It’s the TCX ADVANCED PRO that supports Lars van der Haar, who also performed well at the recent CrossVegas.
Giant “TCX ADVANCED PRO 2” size:S(500mm) Price:¥230,000 (excl. tax)
Setting aside the fact that the logo design has changed this year, this frame uses plenty of ADVANCED-grade carbon, reflecting all the strength of Giant’s solid manufacturing. While this model sits at the entry point of the “PRO 0,” “PRO 1,” and “PRO 2” lineup, the TCX ADVANCED PRO itself is such a pure race bike that it’s ready to be taken straight into competition as is. It’s a surprise that you get change back from 250,000 yen for this.
It features an 11-speed 105-based groupset, and with the essential TRP SPYRE brakes, the build is flawless. The cabling is internally routed, keeping you free from cable trouble even on muddy courses or in tough conditions.
And the 15mm thru-axle front fork that Giant was quick to adopt last year is here to stay. Not only is it highly rigid, but it also allows you to trace your intended line without being swayed by the vibrations from uneven road surfaces in CX races, resulting in a bike that moves forward solidly.
You can use the standard wheels for daily training and gravel rides, and once you build a set of tubular wheels for racing, you’ll truly have a bike with nothing left to complain about. The 15mm thru-axle hubs do limit your options, but how about a combination of a Chris King ISO Hub for the front and an R45 Disc for the rear?
While this is certainly a recommended model for gravel riding, the TCX ADVANCED PRO 2 is truly a machine built for battle. For those who want to enter CX races or aim for higher categories, I believe this is a race-ready bike you won’t regret choosing.
We look forward to consulting with those of you aiming for victory.
